Im just curious how this logic works... Everyone is *****ing and moaning about how there won't be hockey.. So how is boycotting it once it's back make any sense? Weren't you complaining because there wasn't hockey in the 1st place?

To me, boycotting the NHL would be like boycotting water...

I need it to survive.

There won't be NHL hockey*

There'll still be plenty of hockey. We've got an OHL team that's got future Senators on it conveniently playing at SBP for the 12-13 season. Could go down to Bingo for a weekend to watch some AHL hockey, or even just pop down to Toronto or Hamilton for a night whenever Bingo has a road game there.

I'm hoping CBC picks up a few AHL games, though I doubt they'd do it every week for HNIC. If I remember correctly they played movies every Saturday night in 2004-2005.

Well, maybe we can have a lockout deadline of our own. Fans, through forums like this, could pledge that if the two parties don't come up to an agreement by DD/MM/YYYY, then we'll withhold from buying any tickets or paraphernalia, or even watching the games on TV, for the first month/60 days/insertyourown after they're back, whenever that is.

This kind of righteous indigation is admirable but really it should be directed elsewhere. We're talking about a bunch of dudes on skates who entertain us for a living.

Now I like to be entertained, and I'm about as devoted to this team and this league as anyone, but losing a few months of NHL hockey is way down my list of things to get up in arms about.

Granted, this is a hockey forum, so I suppose this is the place for this kind of talk.

Carry on then.

The logic being if we continue along the same path we can expect the exact same results, i personally have been a fan for the last 4 lockouts and have really had enough of it, i see the pattern/greed. I mean i will still watch NHL hockey but will not be making any NHL related purchases for a long time, as you grow older you appreciate a dollar more and more. One thing is for sure the NHL will not gain a single fan from this but will lose many because of it. Sadly deep down inside i would love to see both sides lose big and see the league take a huge blow and then maybe just maybe they will come back to earth and see how the normal people in the world live!

If a small group of people refusing to buy a product can put a company out of business, why can I still purchase deodorant?

We're a small market franchise.. If people stop buying tickets the team goes bankrupt and relocates.

The real work needs to be done by fans in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Detroit and Boston. They are where the majority of income flows from the NHL. Its their fans that need to make these types of statements.

If the fans in Detroit stop going to games, it's either because they have been murdered or because they have been reduced to burning their own dung for warmth.

If losing a few months of NHL leaves you indifferent, then not watching a few games or not spending any money on the team should be easily achievable by you!

You can be rest assured that little Hitler(Bettman) made it clear that they needed a complete majority. My guess is that Bettman will not lose his wage over the lockout so he personally has nothing to lose. The players should demand that in event of a lockout or strike , the commisssioner and negotiators loses their salary.

Pretty sure Bettman/Fehr both don't get paid during a lockout...

For some reason I think he does. He's not an owner he represents the owners.

Actually, the casual fan and season ticket holder has little impact.

You want results? Talk to the owners of those luxury boxes. Talk to the sponsors who spend the big money on all those advertisements in the rink. Talk to the companies who shell out the dough to have commercial airtime during HNIC. Get those guys to put their money elsewhere.

The simple fan is just a mosquito, easily shooed away by a wave of the hand.

Both Bettman and Fehr opted not to receive salary during the lockout, it was in the news a few weeks ago
