http://en.khl.ru/standings/conference222/ - KHL standings by conference. Both Salavat and Magnitka were actually off to a bad start.
KHL's powerhouses are Ak Bars, Avangard, Magnitka, Salavat in the East. Traktor added the recent years, and Neftekhimik is a surprise team yet. Western conference was a bit weaker the recent years, best teams out there being SKA, Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv. Atlant is always decent, and CSKA seems to be climbing with new ownership.

What are some of the better teams in the league?
Like top 4 or 5 teams? Anyone know?
There are no top 4 teams. Last season there was about 10 equal teams that had higher chances to win the cup than others. This year there is even more parity. Some rich teams constantly lose to their less wealthy rivals in division, underdogs winning PO series and going to final etc. This yeah I'd say it's between SKA, Dynamo M, Lokomotiv, Lev, CSKA, Atlant on the west and Ak Bars, Salavat, Metallurg Mg, Avangard, Traktor and Amur on the east. But there will be upsets for sure.

All euro-hockey is like that. That's what makes the game much faster, open, and frankly much more fun to watch.
And this is coming from a Devils fan, who is more than used to watching tight hockey and appretiates when players mind the D-zone
Edit - that's probably reason why Geno does not look like the most skilled player on ice (which he is)

He looks exactly as expected. The guy's SLOW. I remember D.Markov and Zhitnik paired in Dynamo after they returned to the KHL - it was a disaster. Same here.

livetv.ru is a better site to watch. You can watch VHL (minor league) on there too. I have been watching the KHL for a couple of weeks now. I wish it was more physical.

some terrible display of puck management in this game.

This ... you could see the PP starting to come together, and improvement as the game progressed. I'm sure the next game will be better ... although, I was hoping that Geno's first game would be a win.

And Ryan Malone couldn't even keep up in an Italian league. Its just different.

I really, REALLY like Alex Emelin.

I'm just messing with you. I enjoy physical play as well. The larger ice surface has a lot to do with it.
