To me, this was a shot at the knees and nothing higher.
Far from being leveled and close to being a penalty.
Yeah, it looked like a borderline low-bridge to me too.

Yep. I'm about 75% sure this exact hit ends in a fight or scrum in the NHL.

Reactionary hipcheck, eh? Smart play by Zubarev (and beautifully executed). That sequence was almost embarrassing for the three defenders.

While we are on a subject of hitting. It seems Ovie is letting out some steam as well .

I wouldn't say leveled, but it was a nice hit.

Meh, the hit was alright. It just reminds me a lot of Ott's hit on Colaiacovo a few years ago that people were complaining about saying he was clipping. It's funny how those double standards work, but Buffalo will find that out once the lockout ends, lol.

Wouldn't the owners feel like fools if their prized possessions got seriously injured playing in Europe? All it takes is a couple Euros who are not happy that NHL players are over there taking their jobs...

I'm not the only one who struggled to keep track of the puck on that Ovechkin hit?

Really bad hipcheck.. More of a low bridge.

Maybe the owners shouldn't have locked the players out then, eh?

Just as an example, do you think Leaf players or Leaf fans would care if a fourth liner like Colton Orr got cut so Alex Radulov could come over from the KHL?

Further to that point, do you think Leaf fans or players would even notice Orr was gone?

"Oh no! That fourth liner who is a scratch 75% of the time is gone and now Evgeni Malkin has taken his place! This is terrible!"

I do, actually. The players, not the fans. I doubt they are as welcome with open arms as you think. I also know for a fact that players right now who are stuck here and unable to find work in other leagues aren't happy with the superstars going overseas either. Heard it from an ex-NHL player who lived that situation in the last lockout.

The superstars are doing it for their benefit.

You don't think the NHL's top European talent going to their #1 competitor doesn't put pressure on the NHL?

Absolutely it is and of course they are. But that's not really of concern to the guys losing their spots or their friends on the team or their families is it? It sucks for those guys and I'm sure they aren't thrilled about it. That's all I'm saying.

Nice hip check, but as others have noted it was a touch on the low side, definitely some knee injury danger with hits like that.

Guys like Malkin, Ovechkin, Datsyuk etc. will have to keep their heads up. It's a bit of a novelty to have these NHL stars playing in the KHL, I'm sure there are plenty of players who would like to be able to say they clocked an NHL superstar.

The KHL teams are allowed to sign three NHL players and those players do not count towards there 25 man roster limit. So correct me if I'm wrong but no one was bumped off the roster because Malkin came over. Yes someone wont be playing but he is still on the roster and will still be making that money.

* Side note if you had the chance to play with Malkin at the expense of one of your borderline players wouldn't you want too? I know I would, this is professional hockey they will want to be able to play with the best.

I don't think a professional KHL player really cares about what they did to an NHL guy. Their big enough as far as stardom in their own regard that it doesn't phase them.

Agreed. There are certainly inter-personal issues at play.
