The Royals have also re-assigned F Clay Spencer.

I'm not at all surprised by Hamilton being released. Polivka has by all rights won the starting job. Id be ok with Vollrath taking back up.

Btw, Spencer was re assigned, not signed.

Pilton off to Regina for a prospect and a draft pick. This means Dixon is sticking around I guess.

The Victoria Royals today announced that the team has traded for import forward Alex Gogolev (1992) and a fourth round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft from the Calgary Hitmen. In exchange, the Royals have sent forward Zane Jones (1994) and a conditional sixth round draft choice to the Hitmen.

Wow, I think that is a great pick up by the Royals.
Would love to read everyones thoughts on the deal. I gather the guy, after some settling in, put in some great performances last year--I think he was the 5th highest scoring Euro in the WHL last year?

I was wondering why Walker was wearing 14. It's too bad about Jones, too. I really liked the way he finished last season. He started to really take the body, and make things happen offensively.

Polivka was pretty good today. He's a little too active in his crease at times. Couple of times early in the game he overplayed the shot, and ended up way out of position. Otherwise, he was great. I'd say a big improvement over Hamilton.

The officiating was BRUTAL. I really hope this isn't a sign of what's to come.

And I took a blow horn (not an air horn) to the game today, and got shut down. They let me in with it, said nothing until after I let it go a few times. Buddy was all "you can't have air horns". I showed him it wasn't an airhorn, no compressed air canister. And he was like "oh, ummmm, you still can't blow it". So ya, **** that ****. They're allowed anywhere else I've ever been in the CHL. That includes the OHL, and Q.

Leadership Group

C - Crooks - scores goals, kills penalties, plays PP and rarely takes a bad penalty. Not sure if last years top scorer and MVP is a raw raw guy in the dressing room but certainly is a leader on the ice. Has been with the Bruins/Royals for three full years and has not missed a game. I would think he has positive presence and is well respected by his team mates.

A - Stahl - rugged defensive defenseman who is not much fun to play against. Team needs his leadership but he has missed too many games due to injuries and suspensions to wear the C.

A - Magee - hardest working Royals compete level has to be contagious. Magee can score as well. Next years Captain.

A - Fransoo - Royals best all around bluliner has a complete game and look for big things from him this year on the backend.

A - Traber - Gritty , tough winger has everybodys back and his team mates know it. Needs to provide a bit more offensive production this year and is certainly capable of doing so.

Next years Leaders:

Magee, Fransoo, Nelson, Walker, Hodges and Kanzig.

With the addition of Hicketts , Gogolev , Polivka and others along with a strong group returning I am very excited about this years editionh of the Royals. Drop the Puck !!!

Go Royals Go !!!

C - Jamie Crooks - Our offensive dynamo plus our reigning MVP

A - Brandon Magee - Great work ethic along with good leadership and charisma.

A - Steven Hodges - Our best two-way player, brings a lot to the table for the team

A - Tyler Stahl - Brings a veteran presence on the back end and stands up for his teammates.

I would say Traber is much more of a leader then Hodges will ever be, but that's just me.

Let's just bring Rintoul back.

I can't even say that with a straight face.

True, but Hodges brings a lot more to the table.

Wish we could, hopefully Hicketts can replace Rintoul's offensive talent. Still don't know why both Hamilton and Rintoul get so much criticism on here.

Hamilton and Rintoul were scapegoats for a for a first year team that really wasnt that good starting with the coach and his son !!! It is totally unfair and lets all concentrate on a team that looks to be improved in all areas this year !! I really hope Victoria gets behind this club for years to come , because it is awfull nice to have a WHL team in your area !!

Go Royals Go !!

He and Habscheid shared half a brain cell, I'm pretty sure. For all the offensive talent, he was possibly the worst player defensively on the team.

I'd give Magee the captaincy. May as well give it to someone who will be here beyond this season.

Hamilton was downright terrible most nights. He'd make the 5 bell save, then let in a softy on the next chance. You can't have that kind of lapse in goaltending if you want to win. Thank god on enough nights we'd get 3-4 goals for.

Yeah Hamilton made absolutely huge highlight reel saves, then let a weak one 5-hole.

Any predictions on the west? I figure the Royals should compete for middle of the pack, and 2nd behind Kamloops for the BC Div.

Oh Zach Habschied.

Most useless WHL player I can ever remember watching...

I'm hoping with Polivka in net and Hicketts and Walker on the point that we can finish close to .500
