"Burke will not go into season with current line-up"

Suprised this hasnt been posted... Let me know what you guys think...

Quote:
Howard Berger ‏@Berger_BYTES

From good source: #Leafs WILL NOT go into season with current line-up. "Burke will definitely add at least one prime player, possibly two."
Interesting, obviously depending on the CBA.. Makes it seem like something is already lined up.

Intriguing chat today with one of Brian Burke's Eastern Conference rivals. He is convinced #Leafs will make a move. More coming in blog.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he had something that is already done but they're just waiting for a new CBA to come into place.

Berger is probably just fishing for Twitter follows or some such.

I'm paying it no heed.

Didn't Burke state something along those lines earlier this off-season?

Considering that no one knows what the lineup actually is until training camp, Berger really isnt stating much.

Send a message via AIM to Bravid Nonahan
Trading Komisarek, Lombardi, and Connolly, and replacing them with bags of rice or flour is like acquiring marquee players.

If it wasn't for the CBA negotiations i'm sure the Leafs would have made some moves a long time ago.

I didn't believe Burke at all a couple of weeks ago when he said this would most likely be the group he would start the season with. There was just too much talk earlier this summer about how many players were available.

Berger is Out. He has no connections, no job and is essentially just some guy with a twitter account now.

Why anybody decides to post what he has to say and give it any credence is beyond me.

Berger was first to put out some concrete about Wilson being fired after they played Chicago.

I do think he has sources.

Berger has worked in Toronto media for over two decades (he still writes for a newspaper). You dont just lose sources and connections when you lose your job.

Exact same thing was said last year. The trade for a top 6 forward was looming.

This.

He's obviously a connected person. His writing usually leaves a definitive line between his own speculation and what he's been told as rumour from outside sources.

Whether this materializes into anything or not is hard to say. But to me it shows that Burke is pursuing new players aggressively enough that others around him are feeling he'll acquire one.

This makes a lot of sense. You'd have a hard time convincing any owner to take on salary right now.

Although that may be, were any of us surprised when he actually did get fired? Team was in a tailspin and he could've been fired any day really. Chicago was our 6th loss in a row getting a grand total of 1 point out of a possible 12. After Chicago (Wednesday) the next game wasn't until Saturday so the team had a few games off and a coach firing at that time would seem logical. For all we know he got lucky in when he said it.

Just playing devil's advocate, I really have no clue as to whether or not he has sources.

Leafs always attempt to add talent prior to the season starting.

Well done Bergs.

Well, BB needs to bring something in. Only danger in having a deal and waiting is that someone might pull it off the table!
