The Leafs are always going to make a trade!...... And very rarely does one ever happen.

Ways to get hits during the lockout, IMO.

Not much else Burke can do. Hopefully ship out one of Lombardi or Connolly, and that's the only change I really see.

I can't stand Berger, but it is hilarious reading guys with NO sources carving a guy who knows every single person in the organization, as well as plenty of league contacts. Get over yourselves.

I agree.

I don't like Berger either, but just because the guy lost his job doesn't mean he still doesn't have sources within the Leafs organization. Berger has been following the Leafs for 20+ years, he wouldn't have had a job for that long if he didn't have people on the inside feeding him information from time to time.

I do think he has sources.
Anyone that questions whether Berger has sources is embarrassingly clueless

Burke was very confident a deal would get done mid January-ish IIRC when he appeared on Prime Time Sports. My guess is it was the JvR-Schenn swap but JvR's injury status nixed it.

Some of the Twitter rumour mongers in particular were howling about it.

didn't Burke just go on record like last week and say they didn't have much in the works and that this is basically the team we will be starting the season with? it had a thread that was like 30 pages long.

Which is exactly why no one should ever take Burke's words at face value.

I'd take into consideration something is brewing but the CBA talks has put it to halt. Also for the records Berger DOES have records.

This is partly why I like Burke the guy will NEVER tell you what is going on. Then again it is his job to keep things a secret.

Wouldn't be surprised if Berger is trying to lure back in followers after spending years bashing and insulting Leaf fans.

I doubt Berger knows anything, he didn't when he covered the Leafs so now that he is looking for a job, I doubt it even more.

It wouldn't surprise me if a move was made once the CBA is agreed on, but there is no sight in of this happening soon.

Berger did his magician's bit, so he isn't wrong if Burke makes a deal, he's covered to say I told you so.

Keep things close to the vest and under wraps. A lot like AA and the Jays, except he really doesn't rely on smokescreens like AA does.

Been hearing David Krejci is being discussed.

Makes sense too.

Maybe Liles plus?

Burke says a lot of things, for a wide range of reasons. He uses the media like the talking heads that they are, making everything he chooses to disclose go viral in a matter of seconds.

We all know he isn't happy with his current roster, and by stating he doesn't plan on making any more moves he could be influencing another GM to pull the trigger on a deal that he may be apprehensive about accepting.

He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.

Considering all the wholes through out this entire roster. I should seriously hope they are looking to make some trades.

No Goalie
No Toughness
No Size
No Heart
No Leadership

exactly, the people crusading for unemployed Berger's sources seem to forget that minor detail.

It's probably going to be two minor upgrades like Malkin and Rinne.

I'd bet on a Berger rumour being more accurate than an Ecklund trade anyday.
