To anyone looking for a hockey fix, LAOLA1 will stream LEV Praha v. Avangard Omsk at 13:00ET today.

LEV has some ex-Sabres in Jakub Klepis, Drew MacIntyre, Jiri Novotny and Paul Szczechura, as well as lockout adds Jiri Hudler and Jakub Voracek. Novotny (1+1, 6GP) captains while Klepis leads in points (3+2, 6GP); Chewy, however, has only seen three games (0+0) while MacIntyre has seen none (their starter Popperle has 0.99 GAA, .959 SV%, 6GP).

Avangard Omsk has Alexander Frolov, Karri Ramo, Anssi Salmela and Armia's ex-teammate Tomas Zaborsky.

hmmpf too late for the stream, but thank you Woodhouse !

some soft news on vanek: according to an austrian tv announcer, vanek could play in the KHL (he did mention Slovan Bratislava as a possibility)

Bernd Freimüller (he was european scout for Atlanta Thrashers from 1998 till 2011 and is now working for the Vienna Capitals) mentioned that Vanek is probably too expensive for most of the clubs in austria. i guess he means vaneks homeclub Graz. He said some clubs (mainly Red Bull Salzburg) could have the money for insuring NHL players (Nödl, Grabner) but probably not Vanek.

This is very freely translated from this article -> link (german)

PS: there is some weird cap-like points system in the EBEL which is another reason besides the insurance that vanek might not play in austria

The game actually starts in half an hour so you didn't miss it.

NHL'ers are now allowed to sign in the Elitserien after the Swedish Competition Authority ruled that barring them from signing was anti-competitive.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Regehr head over there to play with his brother for MODO.

Instead of skating daily at a local rink waiting for the NHL lockout to end, the slick Sabres center is heading to Switzerland to play for the SCL Tigers, a team in the country’s top hockey division, National League A. Minnesota defenseman Jared Spurgeon, Ennis’ best friend, will be joining him.

“I have a good opportunity to stay in game shape,” Ennis told the Gazette. “It’s great hockey over there. I’m going to be playing with my best friend I grew up playing with my whole life. It’s a pretty cool opportunity for us to play together, live together, experience Europe. So I’m really excited.”
Quote:
“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Ennis, who’s never been to Switzerland. “I’m also just looking forward to working hard and trying to improve at center.”

Regier and Ruff have to be happy that their projected # 1 center will get more ice time as a center and be able to gain some momentum if there is an NHL season to come back to.

And it's also NOT the KHL, which has to be a bit of a relief.

Why?

They have an agreement with the NHL to respect contracts and when the lockout is over and the contracts are active again, the IIHF will just transfer the player cards back.

regardless, many GMS are rumored to be not very happy about non-Russians going over there.

They certainly don't have a sterling reputation. Combine Cherepanov's incident with the horrible plane crash....I certainly would dissuade my guys from going there.

NHL GM's have no say in the matter.
The players are free to play wherever they want while they are locked out and the KHL is the best league outside of the NHL.

Two unfortunate but extremely rare incidents don't make the league unsuitable for locked out NHL'ers.

Admittedly those are extremes, but I remember reading about Vinny and St. Louis playing in Russia during the last lockout, the poverty, street crime, prevelance of firearms, and more. I'm much happier seeing a guy play at a very slightly lower level in Sweden or Finland or something than to play in the KHL.

I am surprised every time I catch a European game. I think there are so many advertisements in the NHL arenas. And then I see these European games.

OMG

I just find it so ugly.

Vanek to decide at the beginning of Oktober where he goes.
Graz 99ers are his first choice in austria and the president has already some loose talks about extra sponsors to pay for Vaneks insurance.

More on Enroth's plans (SWE):
Quote:
Several teams interested
Now, the next NHL keeper on his way home to the premier league.
- I expect to go back to Sweden next week, says Jhonas Enroth at SPORT-Expressen reach him by phone at home in Buffalo.
- I have not made it clear to any team, but seeing the course, along with my agent Peter Wallen , over which options may emerge. Some concrete negotiations have not started with any particular team.

The agent of Enroths future:
- He will play and there will be a 99 percent certainty in Europe and it is obvious that he is very interested in the top division, says Wallen.

How is the interest of the clubs in the premier league?
- There are a few elite teams that have shown interest, but I can not say which clubs it's about having respect for everything that is going on right now. But a number of clubs have called and asked what Jhonas want to do, and he wants to play now says Wallen.

Szczechura has already been released by Lev Praha and will try to find a spot in the Dinamo Riga lineup instead.
