Hi guys and gals, first post. Unfortunetly, bad news to have my first post on. I hope he has a full, quick recovery. I thought he was poised for a breakout season too with the way he played in the playoffs. Just my opinion. Maybe we'll see Alex Petrovic sooner now rather than later.

we still have 7 guys on 1-ways and we have robak who has put in his time and will probably be the 1st call up. i don't think we will see petrovic this year barring another 1 or 2 injuries.
It really sucks that he got hurt, but at least we have 7 defensemen under 1-way contracts, so we're covered.
Tallon has been very smart to keep himself covered from injuries more and more. We have the depth to handle something like this. We know Gudbranson is going to be good. Ellerby will finally have a shot to prove himself (and guarantee Strachan some playing time).

Hawks signed Rozi today and the thought amongst their fans seems to be that Hammer is on his way out, that and Guds' injury kinda makes me go hmmmmm, reckon we'll see.

My biggest concern is that Mike Weaver is our only "NHL caliber" right handed shot from the point. Strachan was good, but he hasn't fully put it together yet, and I like Petro, don't get me wrong, he just hasn't played at this level (aside from the short stint in the A at the end of last year), but I feel like with him down, a right-handed point man with a decent to good shot could really help.
I'm sure Erik was working on his Slap shot accuracy and trying not to break his stick on every other shot, so I think that this may be a bigger hole than some of us realize. I hope not, but as of now, I'd be satisfied with Strachan or Petrovic.
The defense doesn't worry me much, to be honest.
Organization showed plenty of depth in that area last year.
It sucks that Gudbranson is injured because he's a part of our long-term future, but it is what it is. Short-term, I'm not sure we lose a whole lot. I liked the way Strachan played last year and Ellerby improved.
I was actually really impressed w/ strachan last season, not so much offensively but he played great D, wish we could replace jovo's contract and play him instead, he only makes 600k lol

Assuming they reach a deal. I was looking forward to Gud smashing jets, hurricanes, capitals, and lightning players on tv,
early on in the season. Sucks he might not play again until 2013. Hopefully, he rehabs his shoulder properly.
This is where our depth on defense pays off. Strachan should fill the hole fine, minus the fighting and hit hards. Ellerby provides
that stuff sometimes. I trust Strachan more than Gud and Ellerby with making the right decisions. For now.. anyways.

Solid defensive D. Good pker, good positioning, good stick. Could be more physical. Sometimes has ''oh my god what the fick he was thinking''-moments but he's no liability. Top 4 dman.

We have already got him, his name is Strachan and he comes cheap.
don't get me wrong - Strachan played very well in his cup of coffee last season, but 10-15 games doesn't make a career.
I wasn't trying to directly compare the two, I was just stating that Strachan could hold the fort until Guds comes back from injury. We have 8 d-men signed to one ways for exactly this scenario.
If we trade for Hjalmarsson then thats one more spot taken from guys like Robak and Petrovic who will be knocking on the door soon.
we need more offense our biggest acquisition to score goals this summer is peter mueller...
And that was a really smart signing, I don't see how you could knock it.
The time for signing big name offensive FA's will come when we are ready to make a run at the cup, like when our draft picks are a major part of the team. Give it another 3 years.
