Round 5: Flames Draft Defender Ryan Culkin

Flames draft defenseman Ryan Culkin in the 4th round. (124 overall)

Some info:

Weight: 174
Height: 6' 1"
Born: December 15, 1993
Born in: Montreal, QC, CAN
Shoots: Left
Former/Current Team: Quebec Remparts

Quote:
A hard-working two-way blue liner, Culkin has steadily improved during his time in the QMJHL. A strong skater with a low panic threshold, these skills serve him well at both ends of the ice. Sometimes guilty of trying to do too much on the ice, he has good size and has become more confident moving the puck as well as carrying it on the rush.

Hmm, a QMJHL D. Did have 7 points in 10 playoff games, at least.

He was a fast riser. Quebec Remparts picked him in the 7th round in the QMJHL draft in 2010.

He was 6'0 and 157 lbs when they drafted him.

He's now at 6'1 and 185 lbs...

He's a gym rat. He came first at the NHL combine at the VO2Max test. He's a hard worker and has a great work ethic. Not the most talented defenseman available from the Q but his work ethic helped being the 4th QMJHL chosen in this draft.

Culkin is ok, but I'm not sure that he would be a good fit in Calgary.
Their fans tend to like their players to be grittier than he is.

Hopefully this guy has a big offensive season next year. His d is already good, hes also got good vision on the ice. Might be a bottom pairing 2 way d man for us someday.

You do know that Sutter is gone right? Feaster is redefining what a Calgary Flame is.

Feaster can redefine what a Calgary Flame is, but he can't redefine what a Calgary Flame fan is.

You're a funny guy Sully, I like you, that's why I'm going to kill you last.

But...Pray tell, what is the definition of a Flames fan?
