Has the regular season begun or are these pre-season/exhibition games?

The Plymouth Whalers would have had 13 players at prospect camps if not for the NHL lockout. Instead, they'll open the season tonight missing only three.

Forward JT Miller, a first-round pick of the New York Rangers in 2011, is attending the preseason camp of the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League.

"I'm not sure when he'll be back," Whalers general manager/coach Mike Vellucci said. "That's up to the Rangers."

Are the Whale players skating as a group in CT? Their camp doesn't begin until September 30.

Skjei was a first round pick of the Rangers this past June, and will be one of the best skaters in college hockey the moment he steps on the ice. The product of the USNDP has a ton of international experience and at 6'3 he just oozes potential. His size and skating alone make him a candidate for one of Minnesota's top two defensive pairings, but what he needs to work on is his offensive game. With the skating and what looks to be a good set of hands, he's got the tools to be a scary good offensive player, so we'll see how he develops.

Minnesota begins their regular season on October 12.

stupid question not sure on this but if the NHL season started next month, would any of the players in junior be eligible for the NHL camp?? so JT Miller, St Croix (both signed), McColgan (hopefully gets signed) wouldnt be allowed to take part in the Rangers camp??

If I remember right, the CHL has an agreement with the NHL to let prospects go to training camp when/if the lockout ends.

I always said that this kid was special. Now he also follows the advice of Jaromir Jagr, if you score in the first game of the season you will be jinxed the rest of the year.

It will not be a normal preseason that you are used to. It will be something like what we saw in 1995: a few days to get players in shape and to get them to learn some basics of their coach's style, and then "game on" (that was the slogan after the 1995 lockout).

There won't be time to screw around for several weeks as the teams figure out whether their player will be ready in a year or in 3 years.

thats true but JT Miller is a first round pick and has the best chance to make the NHL as of now if he is ready out of all of the prospects..

God, our CHL prospect pool looks downright embarrassing if Miller truly does make the AHL team.

NCAA prospect pool is impressive, on the other hand.

Skjei, Nieves, Fogarty are all going to be top players for their schools. And all three have a legitimate shot at playing for USA at the WJC. If Nieves has a solid first half he could get an invite. After the way Skjei and Fogarty played in camp they may be locks. Miller is a lock.

That would give us 3 (Miller, Skjei, Fogarty) potentially 4 (if Nieves gets invited) players on USA at the WJC.

Yup. I'm very happy with the way this team keeps pumping out players from college. I'm just a wee bit bitter since I was hoping to catch some Rangers prospects up close and live. Sorta hoping Miller goes back to Plymouth.

I don't blame you.

But i hope Miller's Junior days are over.

Hopefully NCAA and AHL take advantage of the NHL lockout and get more games on the air in the US.

Its going to be a long(er) winter without the Rangers.

That's correct, and it will have a impact his scoring.

But, it is important to remember that he still leads all forwards on his team in ice time, and is 18th overall in the entire league among forwards in ice time. And he don't PK (or have when I'ves seen him) and he only plays on the 2nd PP unit, so he plays a ton 5 on 5.

So he doesn't play on a very good line nor in a real "scoring role", but when he is on the ice its virutally a Jesper Fasth show. And he does create alot of prime scoring chances. But, to really get pts on the board at such a high level that this is, you need to get like 20-30% of them "for free" basically (secondary assists, tap ins and what not), he will not get many of them on that line or without playing on the top PP unit.

St. Croix put up 2 more goals. 4 points in 2 games, off to a hot start.

Impressive. I'd be more impressed if he made Team Canada WJC and/or put up half the points in the Memorial cup...

Here you go:

Take the part of the link after the equals sign (ANWPOiHFa8I in this case) and put it between [yt ] [/yt ].
