Well, he can't be dealt until Christmas so no risk until then. And I'd expect that if the lockout drags on until then or after, Florida will likely leave Huberdeau in junior. My opinion anyway.
I believe the teams that will be at the forefront for Huberdeau are Halifax and BLB. Next to no chance he goes to Moncton, the rivalry is too hot especially after Gormley going to Shawinigan - it was no secret he was in Saint John's plans and Gerard Gallant stated that he felt the offer on the table was slightly better than Shawinigan's but the rivalry between the two clubs begins right at the top with ownership.
I'd say Halifax will be landing at least some of Saint John's assets for a run - other than Huberdeau, I'm sure there will be interest in Kevin Gagne, Pierre Durepos, Stephen MacAulay and Ryan Tesink. And I expect SJ will deal some or all of them.
If Huberdeau stays in the Q for the season, the return on him will be a huge fast-forward for SJ's rebuilding scheme. Here's hoping!
In the meantime, I'll enjoy getting to watch Huberdeau a little more than anticipated - if not for the lockout I'm sure he wouldn't be in town. The team sure is different to watch, having lost 5 of their top 6 forwards (Jurco, Galiev, Phillips, Coyle, Gauthier) along with Beaulieu and Roussel on D and Corbeil in net. Offense will be hard to come by, and to date after two games the Seadogs have 4 goals, Huberdeau in on 3 of them.

I think SJ is going to be looking for 4 assets in return if Huberdeau is in the Q for the year. The 3 above are BLB's top 3 assets in my opinion, I think it will take more than that but that should certainly get BLB some serious consideration.

I can't see the Moose going after Gagne, Durepos or Mac with their 3 OA's that they already have....Fournier, KA, and Gilliard.
In fact, as much as I like SJ's 3 OA's, I can't see any contender kicking the tires too seriously.
Gagne and Durepos will generate some serious intrest... They have plenty of big game experience...

If Ellis gets cut from Hamilton, I would be willing to place money on the Mooseheads acquiring him. Tremendous fit if you ask me, he'll bolster the D defensively and also add a defender who loves to fire the puck. Much better addition than Gillard. It's guys like Ellis that win teams Championships.

Believe he's saying the price you'd pay to get a guy like Gagne isn't worth losing Gillard over. The spread between Gagne and Gillard isn't worth giving up a 1st round pick for. We can use that pick elsewhere.

Perhaps you aren't keen on it, but EVERYONE costs alot at Christmas time. That's the nature of the league. Do you think Halifax has what it takes to win if they sit still at Christmas? There are few (if any) meaningful deals to be had at Christmas that are seen as a bargain for a buying team.
I understand the importance of big game experience, but you're basically giving up Gillard and a 1st for Gagné. And no that's not a fair deal. And upgrade on Gillard would have to be an absolute steal, or we'd have to include him in the deal. And I doubt anyone trading a 20yo would want another 20yo in return. The time to trade 20yos is before the season starts... if you started the season with 3 20s.

Honestly I don't think having Ciampini - Boudreau on the 2nd line is good enough... unless they prove me wrong in the next 3 months. But trivial trades involving guys that have been with your organization for 3+ years don't happen too often, and they very seldom happen in Halifax. Any upgrade to the D will involve a 19yo IMO.

Not sure the asking price will be a 1st for Gagne, but to call a trade of Gillard for Gagne trivial is either a big underestimation of Gagne or a big overvaluing of Gillard. I'd compare Gillard to SJ's Jason Seed. 20 year old, dependable Dman. Seed is playing with SJ right now with Durepos on the shelf and Gagne about to head to Hamilton for pro camp, but when the stable is full there's no question Seed will be on the outside. I like him in the lineup but he doesn't come close to knocking any of the other 20s out and I don't expect they'll be able to deal him. If they do, it will likely be for minimal return, more a matter of finding a good, loyal kid a place to play rather than trying to get good value.

obviously you'll have to pay the price to get a proven winner like Gagne, or a top offensive dman as Gagnon. quality 19 years olf def there is only a few of them and are already playing for blainville or quebec so forget about them. they would also cost like 3 times the price of an overager.
I think if you back up and don't buy at chrismass Blainville, quebec and Val D'or probably will buy and your window to get to the memorial will rapidly close.

I guess people just don't see what we in Halifax see in Gillard, so I'll never win that argument. It's tough to justify how good a player is when he scored 0 goals and 14 assists as an 18yo, and then sat out almost the whole year as a 19yo. So I can understand why people would think Gagné is worth it.

I agree with this. I think the loyalty factor may play a part in this. I believe Gagne is a better D than Gillard, but is not as good as people think... Which will lead us to "You're underestimating Gagne"... maybe, but not many see what we have in Gillard. The jump from Gillard to Gagne is marginal, and if the price was a 2nd then yeah, you might pull the trigger....
