He'd have to go a long, LONG way to match Sanderson, and I hope to God he never does (for the record, I doubt he will).
Funny, I just finished reading "Rebel League" about the WHA, and Sanderson was quoted as saying signing with the WHA for that huge contract was the worst thing that ever happened to him. He even knew it then - he desperately wanted someone to talk him out of it.
This kid could be this generation's Derek Sanderson (without the drugs & booze).
Every generation of fans should have a Turk type swagger player.
He certainly likes his beverages. Seguin has said Brad is his best running partner, which makes me a bit nervous.
What's great is that Patrice sets such a fine, fine example for both of them, on & off the ice. I've noted this before, but Patrice Bergeron reminds so much of Raymond.

I always loved Derek, and it was such a treat when he & Fred called the games. "Lost a couple of chicklets there." His story is very human, and ultimately, truly inspirational. And I don't throw that overused word around lightly.

Agree with you 100% GH.
Sanderson's story is all those things. That stuff that Hollywood makes films of and skeptics think is fiction.
Remarkable at what he did to himself. Recognizing it. Fixing it. Becoming a guy that can be looked up to.
For everyone else, just to clarify, my comparison is based on the attributes of skill, edge, ego, cockiness, and swagger. None had more than Derek and I love how Marchand has some.
Harry Sinden tells a great Sanderson story.
During a preseason game against the Red Wings a rookie Sanderson trying to make the team got involved in a scrum in front of the Bruins bench. He happened to pair off with non other than Mr Hockey Gordie Howe. In then middle of it all Sinden heard Sanderson say, " one false move old man and I swear your career is over". Howe looked at the kid and burst out laughing. Sinden said right then he knew Sanderson would be a Bruin and make the team.

Fred and Derek were terrific.
Derek was hard to beat as a commentator--knowledgeable and funny.

Ha! Never heard that one, and I grew up going to Wings games (though I only saw Gordie at the tail end).
Really do miss those TV38 broadcasts, I suppose because at the time I was in my 20s. Just loved hearing Fred call a game. Didn't listen to BZ at the time, so missed Bob Wilson.
Remember when Cam came to town like it was yesterday, wide eyed & ready to go. As much as I admire Gordie & Terrible Ted (Lindsay, not Greenie), Cam is my all-time favorite.
Recommendation of a decent Derek Sanderson profile would be much apprecaited,

Loved Sanderson, but the guy was a train wreck during his playing career. One good thing, B's fans can thank him for getting Rick Middleton.
Not a lot of people remember, but Nifty was a young player on the Rangers when Sanderson was there and I have heard several accounts that Middleton was big into the party scene and the guy mostly to blame for his wild lifestyle was Sanderson. So much so that the Rangers moved him to the B's. So even after he left the B's, Sanderson was still paying dividends

Heard about Nifty's troubled stay in NY, though I never made a Sanderson connection. Recall, at end of his playing career, Derek even played for the Blues!

From what I have been told, Sanderson was Nifty's evil mentor so to speak. Derek was still in full party-mode and apparently Middleton was his wing-man? I am not sure, but I think that Don Murdoch and Dave Maloney were also suspected of drug use a couple of years later?
Probably a combination of the culture in the 70's and the culture surrounding the team?
