Dumb lineup choices by Klinsmann and a crappy effort. I cannot believe that there is not more soccer talent in the USA. How does Kyle Beckerman get selected, never mind start?
Beckerman is alright but if you're going to have him, Edu, and Jones who are all defensive central mids on the field, you need actual wingers.
Bradley is extremely important to this team right now. By 2014 he will likely be the best U.S. players as Clint and Landon will be beginning to decline.
Any young American kid with flair get hyped like mad. Adu broke into MLS at age 14 and played well. That was pretty absurd, though the league wasn't half the quality then that it is now. He got transferred to a good European team and pretty much floundered until finally he hit rock bottom in the Turkish 2nd division and tried to come back to MLS. He has some OK qualities but he can't really cut it as a full time starter in Philly either. He has a little bit of agility, vision and ball skills. That's about it for Freddie. Hell, a pedestrian guy like Benny Feilhaber is IMO better.
Biggest game of the year is tonight! USA vs Guatemala in sold out Kansas City! Tie or a win and we move on to the Hex next year! A loss and the unthinkable will have happened....
Great win by the USA over Guatemala 3-1. Jamaica and the US will advance to the Hexagonal round. Same that Canada got demolished by Honduras 8-1. No close road trip next year.
I've really tried to warm up to Dempsey over the years, and I was starting to think that maybe he was coming around as a player, and then he took that dive in the box during the late minutes and any respect I gained for him went out the window.
Good to see the US advance to the hex, though I would have loved to see Canada make it to the finals. The US, Mexico, Jamaica and Honduras are the favorites to qualify (with the 4th place team beating OFC's 1st place team).
CONMEBOL has been exceptionally riveting halfway through it's campaign. Argentina is playing better than anyone else in the world right now with Ecuador not far behind. It'd be a shame to not see Uruguay make it, they've too much talent to not make the finals.
Thanks to Rooney's goal it looks like England's (usually tumultuous) path to the world cup could be relatively smooth.
