Absolutely. All things considered, this is still a could depth signing for cheap money.

Keyon Dooling retired yesterday.

from slamonline.com:

Somewhat surprisingly, Keyon Dooling has elected to call his NBA career quits. This, after Dooling inked a one-year deal to return to the Celtics over the summer. From the Boston Herald: “Keyon has decided that he has given the NBA twelve good years and that it’s time to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family,’ Dooling’s representative Kenge Stevenson said in a release from the team. ‘He will never forget his time in Boston with the Celtics.’ Dooling averaged just 4 points per game last season, but the 12-year veteran was a valuable locker room presence. Dooling grew close to point guard Rajon Rondo and had a respected voice among teammates. Forward Brandon Bass famously credited a ‘sermon from Reverend Dooling’ for propelling the Celtics to a win in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Philadelphia last season. ‘We’ll miss Keyon’s spirit and energy, both on and off the court,’ Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. ‘The whole Celtics family wishes him well as he enters the next phase of his life.’ Dooling was signed to a veteran minimum contract. Training camp opens a week from Saturday in Waltham. Dooling, who served as the vice president of the NBA Players Association, figures to have a bright future in basketball if he decides to become a coach or an executive. But he also has other business outside of the game that he could pursue.”

like the Darko pickup- guys done little other than the Harry Potter series since being the second overall pick.

Looking forward to taking in a couple of Celtics games this Fall before the boys return in late November.

Darko can play. He is not a regular, but he is a solid big off the bench. Solid shot blocker.

So barring any more moves this looks like how the Celtics 15 man roster will look to start the 2012-13 season:

PF - Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, Chris Wilcox
SF - Paul Pierce, Jeff Green, Kris Joseph
C - Kevin Garnett, Jason Collins, Darko Milicic, Fab Melo
PG - Rajon Rondo, Courtney Lee
SG - Avery Bradley, Jason Terry, Dionte Christmas or Jamar Smith

remember, C's now solely operate their D-League franchise in Portland, BB, so likely there will be more than fifteen players at any given time

new coach too for the Red Claws as Mike Taylor comes from Rio Grande Valley (Hou); as Austin Ainge was promoted to Director of Player Development

There was, but I think they allotted the money to Lee and Terry, so I think he's gone. Very little chance he comes back, unless there is no market for him at all.

Also, I think Christmas gets a spot over Jamar Smith. Smith may play in Maine, but Joseph and Christmas get spots 14 and 15.

A Celtics thread on the first page? The NHL season must really be in trouble.

Apparently Pierce and KG will retire in 2015. Jet just signed a 3 year deal this summer here, so one would think he could join them.

This makes me sad. Can't they play forever?

Its awesome we have the best players in the NBA in RONDO and GARNETT. And we got some awesome wing players too. Bradley, Terry, Lee, Green, and oh yeah that PIERCE fella.

Really excited for the season. Can't want to watch Rajon and Kevin they are really a joy to watch.

Although he was a good bit player, I think Dooling retiring is a big help. It frees a space for Milicic, and leaves open the possibility of Joseph and Christmas make the team.

Health will be the key factor this year, but on paper, this team is as deep as any team they've run out there since banner 17, if not deeper.

They are just exhibition games, but Green and Sullinger have looked pretty good thus far. With KG and Pierce getting up there in age, the bench is going to be critical to the team's success this year, and so far, it looks much improved from last year.
