When you live in the country, it can be a 50 minute drive to a conference game.

Wait. I've already stopped talking in generalities.

I drove home from Galion through that mess Friday night. The whole time I was thinking how glad I am that I'm not a bus driver and that the bus drivers better get our kids home safe.

Darby, eh? I believe it was their middle school night, including having band kids march with the HS band. Wonder how that went?

They just all stood together on the field and played general songs and the fight song. Prefer that than watching the "Show on Grass" every Friday night.

Spent Tuesday night and most of yesterday at The Wilds in S Eastern Ohio. It's 10,000 acres of reclaimed strip mined land that houses animals from Central and Southern Asia, Africa, and N. America in large pastures that approximate their natural environments. It is truly a hidden jem for Ohio! Here's a link:

Actually went there on a school trip when I was a wee lad, I remember it fondly as the first time I actually got to second base. The trip was really cool other than that, we spent a night there and toured the entire thing. I recommend it.

Love that place I want to visit it again when I visit home, which I have yet to do since moving. My wife will love that place, too. Maybe she can see that not all places containing wild animals in and around Zanesville are ran by suicidal idiots lol.

Nikon did an event out at the zoo that let you use all sorts of Nikon equipment....600 F4 lenses (for the non photography buffs, thats an $11k lens!) D4's ($6k camera), and much much more. They asked me if I had ever been out to the Wilds (which i havent yet) and were mentioning they might try and do the same thing out there, which would be awesome!

That really would be a great opportunity for a photo bug, BjN, don't pass it up if it's offered!

Most definitely! I always make it to the zoo once a year, but now that I know they do this, I will do it every time. It was $50, but after you pay admission and parking, youre essentially at $30 to rent equipment i will never have a chance to own. The 600 was unreal, it was 11lbs and was like carrying a telescope! They would need a few more of each of the longer lenses unless they really took you up close. You need 300mm and up at a minimum

Had hip surgery today, first time I've had surgery before, probably a good thing since I'm 17. I was amazed how I felt like it only took 10 minutes, but was really under for 5 hours.

Also, catheters are icky.

Oy. I'm just shy of twice your age and have never had a surgical procedure. (Unless you count endoscopies, which don't involve any cutting or anything of the sort.)

Hope all is well.

Best of luck. I'm 27 and likely to go in for surgery to repair a hernia in the near future; I'm not looking forward to that. The only thing close to surgery I've had was 3 years ago when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I still have tingling in my jaw that may never heal, and it hurts to brush on the entire lower left side.

The anesthetics were fun though. I can remember sitting in the chair, talking to the nurse as the dentist commented "I'm going to administer the first drug now" ... the next thing I remember is waking up in my recliner at home, nearly 7 hours later. My wife says I was responsive and did as I was told, but I had no recollection of the drive home nor walking in and sitting down.

I also had some pain killers (hydrocodone) that made me feel like I was dead and gave me wicked psychedelic nightmares. I don't get how people can become addicted to that crap ... I hated every second of it.

Best of luck on your recovery, though. Hip surgery at such a young age? Scary!

Its actually the same surgery that JVR had this summer. Apparently hockey players are extremely susceptible to this condition, and supposedly whenever you hear of a hockey player having hip surgery, this is the surgery they're having. It was literally impossible to skate with this condition because of the pain, so I'm glad I got this done. Thanks for the well wishes guys.

I was knocked out for four hours for a wisdom tooth surgery recently and I felt like I was out for a half hour sleeping. Amazing how that stuff works.

You? Nobody knows you're actually a Jackets fan, they just know you're all about the little guy. I think I've just about defined the entire Jackets fanbase for at least a quarter of HFBoards.

I went. Walked inside and the place was PACKED!! Looked at the table minimums for craps.....$25!! Went to see if they had schedules for any poker tournies and with the size of the line, turned around and walked out. One thing I found very odd, was once I got off 270 onto Broad St, I started seeing signs saying Casino Parking $10 No Wait for the parking lots in the old Westland Mall (which is now shutdown except for Sears). I figured they were going to be charging to park in the garage, but they didnt.....so I have no idea what that was about. But you definitely know what part of town you were in! I dont have any plans on going there on the weekends or at night.

Or weekdays, holidays, during the day. Pretty much if there is a moment in time, I won't be there..... :p

Not opposed to it being there, but I made it out of Vegas this year with gambling at all. I didn't mind the occasional craps or blackjack but it's just not interesting enough to actually get me to go out of my way to play.

Hopefully it generates some revenue without causing too much destruction.
