Zajac is a much better player, but he would cost much more and be alot lkess likely to sign with us.

And those signings not only didnt work out, but handicapped us, along with Niedermayer, to the point we had to give away McDonald. It shouldnt be a reason not to spend in the FA market, but it could be why we havent signed anyone to a big deal since.

I cant say I have watched Weiss enough to make an accurate judgement, but last 4 years both have a .72 PPG and career and if you go back farther it favors Weiss even more, but Id attribute that more to Weiss being two years older.

I know points arent everything, but even numbers, with Zajac playing with Parise, youd think theyre pretty comparable no?

Well it was definitely a unique situation where Burke didn't know if Selanne and Niedermayer were coming back and he still thought we had a cup window so he tried to replace those guys. The Schneider signing wasn't bad, it was only 2 years and he was still a great #2-3 PP QB during those years (71 points in 129 games spread over 3 teams) but he was completely redundant as soon as Nieds wanted to come back. Bertuzzi was meh, he produced ok numbers but was inconsistent, injury prone and clashed with Carlyle.

Somewhat unrelated:
How many of you are worried about Perry not signing an extension with us? I feel like Getz will be easy, but I don't think Perry thinks he needs Getz anymore. Perry needs to get signed, but if we can't we have to deal him. Not to get ahead of ourselves here, but what are you guys thinking about Pears?

I think Perry is a very private guy. Even if he was 100% going to stay, I doubt he would be out in the media flaunting it.

I'm worried the lockout will go all year which gives us no time to sign them. If by the time the lockout has ended their contracts have expired they would be stupid not to see what other teams have to offer. That's why I really hoped both guys signed under the old CBA. I'm not nearly as worried about Getzlaf leaving though. If Perry does leave I really hope he goes as far East as possible (except for Pittsburgh, I couldn't stand seeing Perry play for the Pens).

Pretty much this. Perry has always been a quiet guy and the odds of him staying are pretty good in my mind. I honestly don't think he wants to play in a media spotlight.

But Paul's point is very valid. If the whole season is lost there won't be a trade deadline where we could still get something for either of them if we can't sing them. That would be the Ducks worst case scenario.

Don't know if anybody is interested but it sounds like Bonino has earned his lower number according to this article. If we get hockey back this season he should be wearing number 13, not 63. Outside of Fowler, it's been a while since one of our young players graduated to a lower number.

I have to think that expresses BB's confidence in him. Let's hope he is right. I think Bonino played quite well the last part of the year and really looked comfortable and like he belonged in the NHL. I'd love to see him be one of those 7th round picks that ends up being a great top 6 forward.

He signed one way deal, so if we look back, that number thing now seems logical. He did step up under Bruce though

PS
he`s 6th rounder
We got great value from SJ.

PPS
Karlsson now reminds me a bit of Bonino. Good 2 way center, who not always plays physical game but can defend and is smart. Karlsson is better on faceoffs though.
If Karlsson ever gets to the NHL, i think we keep only one of them.

Fasth injured

Viktor Fasth was injured in a game against Malmo today. I haven't seen any footage of the incident, but apparently he collided with a teammate somehow early in the game and left the ice. It's a injury to the head, concussion hasn't been ruled out.

Figures. At least it wasn't Jonas, and we at least have some guys that can step into the backup job.

Thank god we didn't get rid of JDD. I hope Fasth eventually gets the backup role, I was very excited to see what he can bring.

Good news about Fasth.

Viktor Fasth:

I recieved a blow to the head and left the ice as a precaution. It shouldn't be anything to worry about, I have a slight headache but nothing worse.
Petter Nilsson (Tingsryds coach):

I've seen the situation on video afterwards and it didn't look that dangerous. We will meet Viktor today but I don't think it's a concussion.

I haven't seen him play so I can't say. His numbers are ok, but defenitely nothing spectacular. Anyways four games is a small sample size.

I was expecting this season to be a nice year for graduates. Palmieri, DSP, and Bonino all seemed like they had a shot.

Ryan, who has three years with an annual $5.1 million cap hit remaining on his contract, got the clarification during an early September meeting with Ducks GM Bryan Murray.

"It was really nice to touch base with Bob," Ryan said. "We had a really great conversation. There was no bad air by any means. He just said, 'Listen, I wish you hadn't said it for the timing.' He said, 'I understand (the Courier-Post) caught you in a bad spot for yourself.' You know, we had a good talk. We cleared a few things up, that's for sure. There's no animosity. There was good conversation all-around."

Matt Beleskey to play in England.

http://www.coventryblaze.co.uk/news_latest.php?id=2707

I like the EIHL for him. He should have the puck a lot on his stick, and he could stand to improve his puck possession and passing game.
