Lazar had a terrific playoff last year but I still found myself going "Top five in the 2013 draft? Really?" His performance today turned me into a believer. All over the flipping ice... and I'm not even sure how many shots he got.
Anyway... the attendance was lousy today. The 50/50 didn't even hit $3000.
Oil Kings clobbered Red Deer today 6-2. Shots were 53-20 in favour of the Oil Kings. No Dumba for Red Deer. I think he was suspended. Curtis Lazar was on fire with his first WHL hat trick, including a short handed laser top shelf. Could have easily had five goals as he rang one off the post and just missed the open net on a deke. Just a superb talent. Michael St Croix was outstanding with two goals. He is just so much better than everyone else. He probably doesnt belong in the league anymore tbh. Klarc Wilson with a strong game, winning puck battles and controlling the puck along the boards, chipped in with a nice deflection for the sixth goal. Saw Brent Sutter at the game. He probably wasnt happy with the effort. Red Deer is a poor team this year.
Moroz is just a place holder for Wruck. He will be demoted if and when Wruck returns to the lineup imo.

Ewanyk has been disappointing as well AFAIC.
As has Reinhart.
Not suspended...or at least not yet. Currently facing disciplinary actions for a blind side hit against Calgary I believe.

Not liking what I've been hearing about Moroz and Ewanyk so far, hopefully they can turn it up a bit.
I know people here haven't been impressed with Moroz so far but in Lowetide's post at Oilers Nation he sounded like Moroz had a strong game against Kootenay. Other commitments prevented me from attending the games this week but I'll definitely be at Friday's game and looking forward to seeing the beast that is Lazar along with Virtanen and others.

So Lowetide's opinion vs. everyone else's opinion that I've read here? Yeah, sorry, but I take everyone else's opinion.

Safe to say you're wishing the Oilers had picked St.Croix instead of Ewanyk a couple years ago? What's your take on those two as pro prospects?

No idea.
Ewanyk is a longshot. St Croix might have a shot. He is pretty skilled and has good hockey sense. Not sure if he is big or fast enough to cut it in the nhl. He has a shot, but it is probably less than even money.
Moroz was a stretch at 32nd overall in my opinion. Ewanyk was ok for where he was drafted.
As an aside, I was really hoping at least one of Hamilton, Pitlick, Moroz, Musil turns out.
Honestly, it doesn't look too hot for a lot of these guys, which is disappointing considering they were all almost first rounders.
Really? At least give Moroz a bit of time, Pitlick had a great 2nd half of his first pro season, Musil was unreal as a shutdown D at last year's WJC against the best players in the world in his age group.
Hamilton needs to pick it up, but he's ony entering his 2nd year of pro hockey.
Also, I thought Moroz was pretty solid vs Kootenay. I thought that whole St. Croix line played well together, and Moroz was part of that. I didn't see the Red Deer game though.
I like Ewanyk as a future 4th line PK/faceoff specialist, but I'd like to see him step up his offence a bit this year. We'll see, on a stacked team it might be best if he stays in his role though. He's that tough, dependable, bottom 6 centre that every winning team usually has.
I think St.Croix is more of a longshot then Ewanyk is. St.Croix is a top 6 guy and if he isn't in the top 6 he won't be playing. The chances of him doing that are slim as they are for alot of players and he more then likely won't adjust to a bottom 6 role.

And Ewanyk is a bottom six guy and if he isnt in the bottom six he wont be playing.
I dont really see that being a very good argument for one over the other. St Croix has a better chance of being a top six player in the nhl than Ewanyk does of being a bottom six player. Not by a lot, but I think you could make a case for it.
Its early days, but Ewanyk looked better last year than he does this year, and he didnt really knock anyone's socks off last year, granted he was coming back from a serious injury.
He looked better before the injury than he has at any time since he has returned imo.
More like almost losing your virginity before 40. He could've been good.... Thanks for your analysis'. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to be stuck around Swift Current for this winter so I'll have to do my best to take in some Bronco games here. They have an interesting Finnish goaltender prospect who's an overages in draft status as well as Graham Black who I really liked last year. Both are past draft opportunities, at least Black is, but he really caught my attention last year in the two games I saw him in.

I totally agree with this. I do not get how people are dissapointed with Ewanyk play so far. He has done his role perfectly so far I think, and he has also added 2 assist which is a bonus for his style of the play. He absouletly leveled a kid on Sunday which is nice to see he his not scared to use his shoulder again.
