I have my doubts, but I'm confident in him. If nothing else, his speed and tenacity will make him effective and get him some points. I don't think the 4th line will produce at the rate they did in the playoffs, but I certainly don't see that trio losing chemistry..
... unless we see Bernier on the 3rd line, and then Barch on the 4th line. In which case,
Agreed.
I think the production of the 4th line is secondary to its defensive reliability.
If they can pot a few goals, its found money.
But they all have the ability to eat a fair amount of minutes every night.
Any 4th line that can put in close to double digit minutes is fine by me.
This team has NO room for that steaming pile of rat piss named blomez. **** him, I wouldn't take him back this season if he paid off our arena debt. His decline has greatly pleased me.
I'm not so bitter anymore, clearly we made the right decision and stayed successful and he didn't, but I agree that we really don't need him at centre, because we have excellent depth there. Even if we're planning to put Henrique on the wing, using Elias as a centre or signing a guy like Huselius is a better option than bringing in Gomez.

This should generate some fun replies. Thanks for the entertainment during the lockout, we need it.
am i the only one not confident in gionta over an entire season?
he reminds me of some baseball players that spend their careers bouncing up and down in between the minors and majors. they can get hot for a while and be a spark plug when they first get called up, but they always fall off after a while and get sent back down again for another month.
Not confident in Gionta at all. He pulled the same act when he first graduated from college to the AHL, going on some freaky tear at the end of the AHL season and convincing a lot of people he was a quality player.

Not sold, but not skeptic either. He`s Gionta, so whatever happens, he`ll still continue to hustle and play with heart. In a limited role, that can`t be viewed negatively even if he struggles for a longer period of time. And Lou`s obviously not overly confident either, and rightfully so. Gionta`s contract extension clearly shows his way of thinking.

I really don’t think this is true. I think there are a million better financial ways for the habs to handle his contract than buying him out
If the salary cap goes down then I can't see anything better for them other than burying him in the minors. He's taking up so much space that they could be using to sign or trade for a better player with that salary.
As far as Gionta goes though like I said if he does play with Janssen and Barch he won't bring any offense at all, and probably not a whole lot of defense either. Maybe occasionally with Barch, but not with Janssen. Janssen should be in the minors if anything. He's on a two way. I don't understand why they didn't just give him a one way for a year like they did with Harrold if he's probably not gonna see any AHL time.
He's a likeable guy, and that's the only reason I don't completely hate him.
Anyway sign Gomez, sign Arnott, Sykora, and then we got 5 guys with Patty, and Marty from our 00 Cup team! Trade Greene, and Tallinder, sign Colin White since he's still free, and even better. Too bad Robinson's gone. Just sign Rolston even though he didn't finish the season with us that year.
Top it all off by picking up Kurtis Foster through UFA!

i would think theyd send him to the minors before they waive him though...i bet someone would pick him up anyway..the devils, hopefully (half cereal)
Id be willing to play Foster as a 7th defensmen if we for some reason couldnt play 12 forwards. and just play him on the powerplay and double shift kovy on the 4th line

Haha I think I took this thread a little too far. Just a little.

I'd like to see it, though.
I don't think anybody is expecting him or the rest of the fourth line to play at that level over a full season or for the rest of his career, but he's a useful player to have around, and we're not paying him much or committing to him for many years. It's hard to complain about his presence on the team, especially when there's no risk and he's also so likable.

We already have 8 capable NHL defencemen, no need to bring in Foster. Harrold fulfils that role better.
Forgot about Pandolfo in my plea to bring back as many pieces of the 2000 Cup team as possible. He's a UFA too.
He's done I'd say. He went a year without getting an NHL job already so I think he's done. Rolston was leaning toward retirement before last season even ended. He's done too especially with a lockout. There may be a demand somewhere for Rolston, but I think he will probably retire. Pandolfo no demand at all I don't think.
Colin White might be finished too. Though some team might pick him up after the CBA is straightened out. Arnott I doubt he retires. Just some predictions on former Devils who's futures seem uncertain right now.
