The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
And really stop reading the Seattle times speaking about the arena. They are so blatantly opposed to Hansen and the arena, that the misinformation coming from then is laughable
This - the one paper in town is against the arena since it's in cahoots with the Port who is also against it because they are already losing jobs & work to Tacoma.
Key will get some touch ups and renos, but WNBA and Seattle U may move to the new arena too. I would think the best thing is to convert it to a top flight concert venue for 10-12k ppl.
And as for the Mariners complaints, the Ms and MLS Sounders both played on Saturday night in town next door to each other. Ms drew 17,671 and the Sounders 38,948. Maybe the Ms should complain that the football/soccer teams are bad for the city too.

That might be the right way to go, since the music venue, Sodo Showbox, will end up being demolished to make room for the new arena.
they might already be...... just saw this on twitter from a sports journo in seattle... holy crap:

Breaking. A group representing the #Edmonton Oilers, including team president, owner was in Seattle today taking a tour of Key Arena. #NHL

Okay question not to say this is the team coming here or not but who saw this coming?

katz is pulling out all the stops. It's blackmail, plain and simple. See penguins and their dealings with KC while waiting to get funding approved for their arena.

I mean based on rumors that it could be coyotes or the islanders but Oilers. Oilers would be the least team i would expect.

I did, and I'm an Oilers fan! If they move I would love it since I live in Oregon and then would actually have a chance to see them place once in a blue moon.
Do not for one minute believe the Oilers would ever leave Edmonton nor would I want to see it happen even if it meant an NHL team in Seattle. Well maybe the last part is not true but would hate to see the Oilers anywhere but Edmonton. Do not see it happening.

Dear Charles Wang, THIS is how you use leverage. Please schedule a meeting with Hansen ASAP.
Love, those of us who want a NEW NHL arena at the NVMC site.

Yeah, same here. I don't think anybody should want the Oilers to move. It would be even sadder than the Sonics move.
