+ some overager could be picked. happens every year recently.
of course
stil believe that Plutnar for example has NHL potencial and think that he could thrive next season after the season of adjustment to tough WHL in 2011/2012.
I guess TSN felt like Slovakia should have some other representation than the Viňovský trade at the draft too.
Seriously though, thatīs a pretty stupid mistake. If it was the other way around (having a Czech flag for Slovak player) they could make at least a bad excuse since Czech flag was Czechoslovak flag before, bzt this is just
Czechs get to play with Swedes, Russians with Finns etc. Everyone gets to try out the different styles that each nation plays and hopefully learn something from it.
So according to CHL Import draft our biggest hopes for 2013 draft (Kostalek, Kubalik, Zdrahal) will be playing in CHL. Is that right?
It's little bit disappointing. I was hoping Kostalek and Kubalik would play in Extraliga next year.
Anyway, I guess CHL might be good for Jaskin though.
On another note, some interesting stuff going on in Vitkovice where they are introducing some sort of skating treadmill to analyse player's skating and try to improve their technique.
Could the Czech team at the WJC medal this year? This is likely the most talented team the Czech Republic has sent to the World Juniors in the last 5-7 years and I think they could really surprise. After being lead by Detroit prospect Petr Mrazek with an exceptional performance last year, this Czech team has retained much of its core talent and, with an extra year of development under their belts, I think that this team will make some big noise this year.
Goaltending: With Mrazek graduating who will pick up the slack left behind? I would think that Matej Machovsky, David Honzik (VAN, 71st), Patrik Bartosak and Marek Langhamer (PHX, 184th) are the front runners for the three available positions. Are there any guys from the Czech league who could over take them?
Defense: David Musil (EDM, 31st) will be back as the #1 guy on the team and Marek Hrbas will also be back in a top 4 role. Richard Nedomlel (DET, 175), Michael Plutnar and Tomas Pavelka should also successfully compete for spots, but who will take the remaining 2 spots?
Forward: Up front the team will be lead by returnees: Tomas Hertl (SJ, 17th), Radek Faksa (DAL, 13th), Martin Frk (DET, 49th), Dmitrij Jaskin (STL, 41st), Tomas Hyka (LA, 171st) and Lukas Sedlak (CLB, 158th). If Matej Stransky (DAL, 165th) is allowed to play he'll also be a lock for the team. Matej Beran should also easily make the squad. Who else do you guys think will make the team?
Am I on the right track with who I'm predicting to make the team? Who will take the remaining spots?

You're right, I think I will speak for all Czech fans when I say that we have big hopes for this upcoming WJC. I think all our weapons are already known. Who will take remaining spots will depend on the performances during the first half of the season, forward Rousek is having a good start in extraliga for example, maybe Jakub Vrána, who shined in the latest U-18 WJC could be an important piece too. I think the most important thing we're hoping for is great goaltending from any of those guys you mentioned already, that's always the key at this level.
I think it's fair to say however, that the team remains considerably below the Big 4, and Finland too.
Some interesting prospects, but little chance for a medal.
However, I think our gameplan is the best way to beat stronger teams than we are, we do that all our history since Czechoslovakia x USSR matchups and it hasn't changed much since then. And with this team we have the best chance to succeed in years, that is the point.

At Junior level the differences in talent are often magnified. So this team does look deeper (Weaker Goaltending) however, the percieved 5 teams above you all will have very strong rosters this year, and i suspect their greater depth will simply be too strong for the Czech team over 60 minutes. You'll rely on a team game and good Goaltending, but overall still not enough talent to truely compete game after game (As in, beat good teams consecutively)

This team is one of the first Czech teams in recent years to actually have a lot of depth, talent wise. This team will boast two first round picks in Faksa and Hertl and three second round picks in Musil, Jaskin and Frk. This is easily the deepest Czech team since they last medaled in 2005. I really can't see this team finishing below 5th in the tournament.
Sure, they may be without Mrazek who was arguably the best player in last years tournament, but they still have strong goaltending with whoever they decide to pick.
They will also have a defense with size who can play a shutdown game and move the puck to the forwards to create offense. Musil was great last year and ate up huge minutes, Hrbas will be back as the puck mover, Nedomlel will bring two-way ability along with a massive frame, physicality and toughness; etc.
Up front they have so much talent, speed and size in their top 9 that they'll really be tough to stop.
