I read it more as "since the league has moved on its offer, it we miss games it is the PA's fault".

I wouldn't get excited by it.

Like Swayze said, it's probably just so they can make everyone think it's all the PA's fault.

Yeah, the last part of the quote should be ""100 per cent committed to not missing regular-season games, as long as the players cave and give us everything we want today"

Good read. Echos why I have a difficult time supporting either side in this argument:

http://themccabechronicles.blogspot.....html?spref=tw

Quote:
The 57% of HRR that the players received in the last year of the just expired collective bargaining agreement ("CBA") was $1.689 Billion. THAT is the money they earned in 2011-2012. THAT is current dollars. Then where did the $1.881 Billion number come from that everyone at the NHLPA is throwing around? That is what they WOULD BE entitled to receive if the CBA was for the 2012-13 season using the most recent % of HRR. But the agreement doesn't cover 2012-13. They aren't entitled to that money. They just pulled that out of thin air and say they are entitled to it.

So, in the league's last proposal, knowing that players have stated they were very keen to keep the current dollars, the league offers 49% of HRR, which for the 2012-13 season would amount to $1.617 Billion - pretty damn close to their last year of pay. Compared to what they received in 2011-12 - $1.689 Billion, this amounts to a very small (relatively) $72 Million or 4.26% reduction of salary. A little different then the NHLPA lead everyone to believe.
Quote:
Using the NHLPA's growth estimates, and the owner's 2013-14 offer of 48% of HRR in the most recent proposal, the players would get $1.697 Billion in 2013-14, a 5% increase year over year, and back above what they were paid in 2011-12.

For the 3rd year of the proposed CBA, 2014-15, the players would get $1.779 Billion or 4.8% increase year over year. For the last 3 years of the proposal, the players salary would increase at the same rate as revenue growth (in the NHLPA's projections, it's 7.1% per year).

So to summarize, the NHL offered the players a 4.26% decrease in salary in year one, 5% increase in year 2, 4.8 % increase in year 3 and increases in line, percentage for percentage, with revenue growth after that.
EDIT - Obviously I did not do this math so I'm not 100% sure if the guy is accurate or not. If he is, pretty eye-opening.

Bettman/Daly spoke with Fehrs at NHL alumni dinner -- and expect to speak again tomorrow. Still no plans to resume CBA talks.

real eye opener, don't see why anyone can even argue about being on the players side after that.

devil's advocate... the players aren't getting a thing out of this deal. if they lose the laundry list of items, maybe they want to hold onto basing proposals on the $1.88b.

they should make a proposal though. it paints a different picture. let reason prevail and get together

Exactly why I'm not on either the NHL or NHLPA side. Theyre both blind by their greed.

I'm on the fans and employees of the arenas and teams and everyone else that gets either laid off or had salary cuts.

if i remember correctly, the deal bettman put on the table was able to be negotiated, was it not? if they players were able to negotiate a couple percentage points up to start the deal (which is not out of the question), they're able to keep everything in their current contracts.

Looking at the blog, I see that the writer has no connection to hockey (as far as he discloses). He's working on what was leaked to the press and if I'm not mistaken is wrong about the number of proposals the NHLPA has exchanged with the NHL. He also overlooks the fact that the NHL withdrew its latest proposal when they locked out the players. The devil is in the details and most of us don't have enough of them to really know how various proposals from both sides actually play out. As Mark Twain once said, there's lies, damned lies and then there is statistics.

Everyone has a right to their opinion. I just believe in finding as much information as possible from a number of different sources as I form opinions about various issues.

They won't meet today or tomorrow. A Jewish holiday begins tonight and ends tomorrow night. Bettman and the Fehr brothers are Jewish.

There is no way they don't miss at least a few games.....I mean, I'd be very surprised if they started on time. This is the NHL after all.
