65 points in his 3rd year too.

No clue why Kuznetsov didn't come over, he would likely have been playing on the 1st line. Much better for his development than the KHL.

If you want a legit top 3 winger you have to pay for it so who do you have available for trade?

Caps don't have the assets to trade for a top 6 winger. We're are not exactly stacked at any position and our prospect poor is rather depleted.

I think Martin Havlat would fit nicely on the first line with Ovechkin and Backstrom. How about Laich + Schultz + 2nd for Havlat + Murray?

The 2nd line can be Wolski/Perreault-Ribeiro-Brouwer, the 3rd line Chimera-Johansson-Ward, 4th line Hendricks-Beagle-Crabb

I would like that but that is brutal for Sharks imo. Sharks need speed, Havlat is basically only fast top6er they have, along with Marleau.

The Caps rely on scoring? Have you watched them in the past two seaosons?

Also, in that scenario he'd be playing with two PPG+ guys in Ovechkin and Backstrom.

If an entire season goes by, then we'll just stick it out with Forsberg pencilled into that top six spot.

That is such a weak return for Gionta. I'm a Bruins fan and I'd love to have Gionta. He's worth much more than that.

The Sharks are a team with an abundance of centers and LDs, and a need for wingers. This isn't the kind of deal they'd be interested in.

kuznetsov didnt come over because he got good advice. they told him there was almost 100% chance of a lockout and a pretty good chance the entire season is lost.

as to the caps needs. if you assume ovechkin and backstrom are the two locked in elements of the 1st line, the 3rd part needs to focus on what the other two dont do. they need a puck retriever and someone that goes to the net. a mike knuble type player.
troy brouwer and brooks laich can both do that just fine.

Regardless of whether there is season long lockout, I would think the Capitals would have interest in Kulemin for the right price. However unless the Leafs have given up on him right now, it probably wouldn't make sense to trade him while his value is at an all-time low.

He participated in rookie camp a few months ago and did well, but he's under contract in Europe for this season and I'm not even sure he would have participated in any training camp.

Well its quite likely he wanted to stay home regardless of the status of the current NHL season. In hindsight though this seems like a good decision.

Not at all interested from a Sharks POV. You don't get a legit top-6 forward for an overpaid 3rd liner, a cap dump, and a 2nd. Murray > Schultz, and Havlat >>> Laich. A mid second doesn't help.

You could stick Hendricks or Ward on there and they'd do ok for themselves.

Laich and Brouwer are passable but that line could be exponentially better with a more skilled and/or more physical player. You want to get as much out of Ovechkin and Backstrom as you possibly can. Plus sliding Laich/Brouwer down the lineup works better for depth. Kulemin is a very intriguing idea if he's available without giving up anything backbreaking. Big, fast, fights along the boards, goes to the net and most importantly doesn't kill plays as much as Laich and Brouwer.

Wolski was promised, when he signed, to play in the top-six.
