Is Darcy Hordichuk a heavyweight?

Yes, it's one of those "ignore the lockout and argue instead" threads."

6'1 212
Mostly fights heavyweights
Cheap 1 year contract

I'd say yes.

He's big enough to maybe hurt the other guys fists when they hit him in the face.

As an Oilers fan I would say no, but he is in the class right below them.

I have a hard time accepting hordi as a heavyweight. He might have the size but he certainly doesn't have the ability.

He gives it a go. He's half way between a heavy weight and Dale Weise.

Nope. He couldn't beat Tootoo when he was here and Tootoo isn't a heavyweight.

Cheap 1 year contract has anything to do with it?

No. But, he can usually fight and lose to heavyweights without getting totally rag-dolled... and occasionally, he even manages to wrestle one to the ground.

If he's in the heavyweight catagory, he's the little engine that could.... But more the little engine that tries. He's still more effective than eager. Watching eager take line changes while other teams take liberties with our young stars is unacceptable. If he would play the game the way he can, but do it night in and out, he'd be heroic in Edmonton.

Well he certainly isn't a hockey player

Love Hordi as a person but as a player...

Hordis a guy whose tough enough to handle the heavies so if he started fighting only middleweights he would probably get called a spot picker because he would dominate that weight class.

Fighting the Carcillos, Mike Browns, Zack Smiths and BJ Crombeens of the league he would be considered the top middleweight I think and at 6'1 its not like he would be fighting out of what should be his weight class

Are there two Robin Big Snakes? Because the one I know is not even close to that size.

Darcy is not a heavyweight, and I'm surprised he still has an NHL job. He's a respectable fighter but he's not all that intimidating or skilled at hockey.

By height and weight, he's not a heavyweight. However, he's shown time and time again that he can fight the heavyweights. If he stuck to fighting "middleweights", his fights would look a lot better.

He's getting old, but I'd still take him on my team in a heartbeat.

Yes he's a HW. He's fought practically all the HW's in the league. Hell, he's fought George Parros about a hundred times alone.

You geniuses tell me:

George Laraque
Peter Worrell
Chris Simon
Colton Orr
Derek boogaard
George Parros like 12 times
Brian Mcgratton
Wade Belak
Bob Probert
Zdeno Chara
Sandy Mccarthy
Ryan Vandenbousch
Andre Roy
Jody Shelly
Eric Cairns

Could a non heavyweight have that fight card and live to talk about it? Don't think so. I don't think he's a good fighter anymore but he's spent a decade fighting the biggest, toughest guys in the NHL while rarely taking big punches despite not hugging. He's tough as nails and his fight card is full of heavyweights making him one even if he is much smaller than most of them.

Hordi is a great forechecker, better defensively than he's given credit for and willing to go with anybody; but he's not a legit Heavy. He doesn't have the size, raw power or technique to drop the gloves with the big boys. He's a Cruiser who likes to take on the Heavy's.

Nobody questions Hordi's toughness, but a fight card does not determine weight class. Size and effectiveness are what decides whether a guy is a Heavy or not.

If people consider Domi and Ray heavyweights then so is Hordichuk.

Good teammate but an absolute plug out there.

He did a masterful troll job on Staubitz last year though, it was really funny.
