I've mentioned this in previous years, but FAU hockey is getting ready for another season at the Saveology.com Iceplex in Coral Springs. They started off with two wins at Embry Riddle last weekend, and are coming back for the home opener this Friday night (8 pm) vs. a strong USF team. As many of you know, the Owls are coached by Pete Worrell and are always very competitive (one of 16 teams that went to Nationals a couple of years ago).
So without our Panthers around, if you want a hockey fix, come check them out. It's a great product and a lot of fun. I do the play by play and public address, so come say hello if you attend (or message me if you want a link to listen).
Or you could check out the Canes who play in Kendall and are one of the favorites to win the DIII National championship. Also beat FAU 12-3 last year
Maybe they could check out both? I did a couple of Miami games last year and they're an awesome team. They're quite a drive though for most people in the area. And you don't get to see Pete.
No reason people can't see all the teams. Just wanted to toss this out there since the Owls are so close to most people.
Wasn't taking a shot at the Owls. I know many of the players on that team including Pete, who still owes me a beer after my Canes beat him last year.
Both teams are definitely great programs that will be fun to watch this year.
Also have to give the Owls credit, they were one of the few notable teams willing to play Miami once word got out that the 1st year Canes were beating everyone they played. (nobody wants to lose to a first year program, it looks bad when it comes to at large selections for nationals)

Yeah, Miami was extremely impressive last season when I saw them and I really want to see them match up with UCF and Gulf Coast. Those will be spectacular games. Coach Toyota and staff do a great job.
FAU has a lot more obstacles than most teams (especially in the way of funding). I know last year the Owls had two defensemen on the roster for some games. This year they seem to have a much deeper roster so that should help them at least stay fresh.
Looking forward to a couple of UM/FAU games in a week or two.
I will probably stop in Friday...how many people usually attend? How much are tickets?
It's tough to tell how many people are there since there's so many areas to watch. There's the main stands on one side of the ice, and then people watch from around the boards behind one of the goals and another group watches from the bar that overlooks the rink. I'd guess there's a good 100 people or so on a good night. Stands can fill up.
Students and children under 12 get in for free. $8 for everyone else.
I know the Canes have an inline product didn't know they had ice hockey...FIU use to have inline but I think it got canceled. Def wish good luck to the Florida teams.

After we won the d2 title in roller in 2011 the school converted the team to an ice team last year.
UM games at Kendall Ice Arena are right near Tamiami airport/Metro Zoo for those of you in Dade county.
I'm going to check out the game on the 21st. It's a Sunday at 4pm if anyone else wants to meet up.
