Why is Darche still considered a hab?

The whole summer I've seen Darche sporting Montreal hats, bags, t-shirts and now this picture at a habs work out is calling him a habs' forward. He still has his habs gear.

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sport...199/story.html

As far as I recall, he still is a UFA. He's like an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend that can't accept a breakup.

He's allowed to wear Habs gear and practice at the Habs' facilities (Hamrlik was doing the same, and I believe Fleury did too at one point this summer). The only source that seems to be considering him "a Hab" is the Gazette, so I think it's safe to say it's an error on their part and nothing more than that.

Watch closely... he doesn't have the Habs logo anywhere on his helmet while others players like Moen and Leblanc do.

It's more the fact that RDS cannot accept he was not resigned and decides to include him in all Habs news.

I don't get the Darche hate, especially at this point.

So he wears a Habs hat to training, why is that a big deal?

Don't hate him. I just get a weird vibe from him. I found it weird that he turned down the habs offer earlier in the summer as though he was entitled to more. He might not even get a contract at all when all is set and done.

Also the whole summer he kept talking and acting like he still had a contract with the team. It's even before this work out. He wears Habs hats...habs t-shirts. Still carries a habs training bag. I just find it a little weird.

The organization made him an offer to show him a kind of respect for his devotion but they knew he would refuse. A 2 way contract for a lower amount of money he had last year.

No surprise he refused. Can't blame him on this.

Well in Darche's defense even if he doesn't think he's too good for the AHL, AHL teams right now are probably playing it conservative with vets because of the influx of NHL ready prospects there for the lockout. Another way the NHLPA is showing how much they care.

Personally with Darche I get a feeling he's angling for a job in management, for the NHLPA or for the Habs or something. As a Francophone he could easily get a job playing in Switzerland, but he's been really aggressive during this lockout in his work for the NHLPA. It's not like he stands to lose much in a new CBA, I get the feeling he's one of the few looking out for more than his own money (playing hockey at least...)

i get the weird vibe, but his name is matt-yioo dhar-tche so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if playing for the habs was a dream of his since he was still swimming in his father's right nut.

so i wouldn't call him a stalker just yet

My only problem with Darche is he's over the hill and considers himself too good for the AHL whereas many great players who were far more than fringe 4th liners go down to the AHL because they just want to play hockey. Darche is a lucky SOB and worked his ass off for the Habs, but he really wouldn't make any other NHL team the last 2 seasons. In that part, I agree it's kind of weird that he still acts like he's on the Habs. The ex-girlfriend who doesn't understand she needs to eff off is a great analogy

I still find it hilarious that the guy thought he could've got a one-way contract.

Do I feel a overly attached girlfriend/Darche meme coming on?

Maybe the Habs want to keep him around in the organization. Could be a good consultant to the players and help them build confidence

Pierre Bouchard doesn't have a contract either but he's still considered a hab by many.

Why are you still a fan btw?

Are people blaming him because he refused to go ride the bus in the AHL? He's not a kid anymore. That's why he refused.

Absolutely and to be honest I still think he can help out more then a few teams out there. We are better off with Moen and Prust but Darche can still help out a team IMO

Well, right now he's not even playing at all. Guys like Darche a dime a dozen in this league. He's lucky the previous management had a soft spot for him. I didn't hate him, but he's just not an nhl regular and my bet is that many teams are willing to give the spot to a younger player with loads of years ahead of him than a guy like Darche who's at the tail end of his career. He might be able to help out a team, but given that no one else extended an offer aside from the habs the entire off-season, it's pretty telling.

I agree with you about the quality of his game. For me, he's done and is easily replaceable.

I'm just saying that at his age, he might prefer to retire instead of going back to the AHL and work hard again to get a spot in an NHL team.

True.

Doubt very much it's an entitlement problem with Darche, he either wants to wait to see what happens and maybe he will accept a two-way offer down the road. Maybe the guy in his mind has made enough money, has other things lined up.. I mean none of us really know right.
