If the cap seriously decreases and the players refuse to take a roll back, they'll have to allow buyouts. Too many teams are over as is.

How about offering Gomez a guaranteed 10-year contract at $1M per to serve as the Habs scout in Alaska if he agrees to retire now?

I wonder why they are keeping him, it seems like quite an large albatros to keep overing a team on the eve of a new era with a new management. You usualy want to get a clean slate with the least amount of negatives. Somehow I can't imagine many games in the season with Therrien being asked Gomez questions by journalists without him going nuts sooner than later.

Wonder if it's because Molson is cheap and doesn't want to pay for a guy that's not gonna play for the team in the minors.

Looks like we got our wish! ... kinda.

@RenLavoieRDS: Scott Gomez will play in the ECHL in Alaska with the Aces, along with Joey Crabb (Was) and Nate Thompson (TB)

National Hockey League regulars Scott Gomez, Nate Thompson and Joey Crabb, all of Anchorage and all out of their regular jobs because of the NHL lockout, are on the ice with the team.

The Aces say Crabb has signed a one-year deal with the club -- that signals he intends to play for the Aces -- and Gomez and Thompson have signed professional tryout agreements (PTOs). The PTOs allow the players to practice with the Aces. They could still sign with the club, although Gomez last week said his previous experience with the Aces -- he played for them during the 2004-05 NHL lockout -- was a one-time deal.

Any chance to start a petition that even if the lockout ends he has to stay in the ECHL?

Like someone else said, when he realizes that he can't even keep up in that league, hopefully he announces his retirement!

It might be a good thing for Gomez to go to ECHL and play against weaker competition

#Habs Gomez tells me by text that there's "no truth at all" to his signing to play with ECHL's Alaska Aces during NHL lockout
Gomez is too good for the ECHL.

Not that it changes your point all that much, but the ECHL isn't Jr. It's minor-pro.

To all of you who want Gomez to stay here in Alaska... most educated hockey fans don't want him here. We're getting Crabb and Thompson... we don't need Gomer. Sorry, but he's still the Habs' problem.

Wait what? Even in terminal decline he'd still probably be the best player on Alaska's squad by a fair margin. This is the ECHL after all.

He's just bitter because Gomez is likely in contention for top 10 Alaskan athlete consideration
