Here's a better question though. What if Chicago had beat Vancouver in game 7, and Montreal had beat Boston?

Capitals - Lightning
Flyers - Bruins

Capitals - Canadiens
Flyers - Lightning

IMO:

Capitals > Canadiens
Lightning > Flyers

Capitals - Lightning

And Tampa Bay won that matchup when it happened in the semifinals, so in this alternate universe where the Canucks and Bruins lose their respective series, the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals teams are

Tampa Bay - San Jose.
Actually, it's kind of anticlimactic, considering both of those teams were the runners-up in the conference finals...

Florida was granted a team by the Gil Stein/Bruce McNall NHL; Bettman had no involvement.

(I have no question to ask, just clearing up that misconception)

Dryden sits behind Cheevers until the mid 70s and has a short but solid NHL career. Boston wins the Stanley Cup in 1971. Rogie Vachon goes on to achieve almost all of the accolades that Dryden did (Stanley Cups, Summit Series, Vezina trophies) and gets in the HHOF on the first ballot.

All of our lives would be just a little bit worse.

What if the 2004-05 NHL lockout ended in time for there to be a half season?

Right now he'd be 2nd all-time in NHL scoring with 1899 points.

WHAT IF Gretzky wore some weird number like 58 instead of 99?

Gotham city wouldn't be in shambles because batman would be able to focus on fighting crime and not running the NHL.

He'd have been harder to isolate from hits. Somebody would mistake him for an actual hockey player and concussed his frail arse out the league.

What if the NHL began to take head injuries seriously?

Rafi Torres would be looking for a new career.

What if Vancouver faces Pittsburgh in a finals series?

I'd have Stamkos' athletic cup hanging on my wall.

Sean Avery would have been killed years ago.

WHAT IF Chelios stepped up in 1994 and took care of Bettman?

NHL would have one great career less, as to lockouts - they are something more than just personal animosities.

What if Canada was a communist state and USSR - a capitalist one, who'd win Superseries 72?

Canada would destroy them. What made the Soviets great was their military training and dependence on dedication and improvisation. If Team Canada played as a cohesive group and trained year round like those old Soviet teams they would have smoked them.

WHAT IF Pelle Lindbergh never died in a car crash at 26 years old after winning the Vezina?
