I wish him all the best though, hopefully he does well this year.
I believe that's what Eakins is trying to accomplish here - send a message. Is it harsh to call him out like that in the media? Perhaps, but whatever works. I hope Eakins knows what he's doing.

What makes you think Toronto doesn't care about him anymore? Just curious.

Did you even read my post ? I said even if it doesn't affect his game ( Which it probably won't) it still shows that the guy isn't serious enough about his off ice ethic.

btw, I'm not trying to bash the kid. He still has the time to get to the next level. He's still learning.

How does this fall on Gary Roberts if one if his trainees doesn't have the motivation or drive to follow a training/nutrition plan? Have some damn accountability.

Not sure I'd do Kadri for Glennie as a Stars' fan tbh.

What a ridiculous overreaction.

Sounds like a tough love kind of statement to me. It's a shot across the bow to Kadri. It's not an indication that the kid is done in Toronto, thus the follow-up tweet.

Truth to be told he won't be an amazing player if he doesn't get his eating/conditioning habits right. He's no Mario Lemieux nor this is the 80s. That's just a general notion, by no means am I ready to jump to conclussions at this point in time.

Pretty funny how Toronto fans were proclaiming he was going to come back in the best physical shape possible because he was going to train with Gary Roberts and it came down to this.

I dislike Kadri as a player, his antics in the playoffs made me lose all respect for him. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you want to make the NHL you have to have dedication and determination and this doesn't exactly show that.

Dallas Eakins is a health nut, so I take what he says about diet with a grain of salt.

I'm willing to bet he will be used as trade bait for Luongo/Getzlaf/Stastny/anyone as soon as the CBA is resolved.

If you want to make the NHL, you've got to work harder than the next guy.

"It definitely maybe could've been a little better," doesn't sound like that guy.

It has nothing to do with Leafs fanbase, any fanbase would claim the same given the success Roberts has had with a number of young players.

Oh just the way the team seems to treat him it seems like he's just another player, nothing special. It's disappointing because I actually really wanted him to succeed in Toronto but it seems the fans and media have turned on him. Just from observation I won't lie I don't know too much about what's going on but I think he could be better than barely ppg or just under in the AHL. I feel like he could be a decent 2nd liner but he's not really being given a shot.

The summer should be a break. Poor character? Please.

Blaming teammates for your own failures, not participating in required group events, getting caught with a hooker and crack,etc....

That's poor character.

Ps. Poor character could be used in terms of coaches going public with stuff they normally don't. Every team has guys like this, he says it himself it's all the kids. Shouldn't be putting the spotlight on kadri, who has plenty on him without Eakins assistance.

huh? there's a difference between taking 2-3 weeks off and taking the summer off. I've practiced bodybuilding (for fun, no drugs involved) for a sport for about 2 years now (heh hockey didn't work out!) and dieting is directly affecting your results. You might have the best workouts ever but if you screw up your diet, you screw up your training also. It might be harsh for the kid to call him out on his bodyfat (which has little effects on his cardio) but I do it for fun and to test my dedication, and I have a hard time thinking someone paid great amounts of money (+all the help he can get) can't do it. Clear lack of dedication toward his goals.

81 points in 92 games his last 2 years in the AHL at 19-20 and 20-21 years old.. Or does that not count?

I laughed out loud.

I agree with OP, seems like Kadri is slowly being weeded out of Toronto. I think he could still be an asset on another team though, a la Cody Hodgson.

Agreed. It must be a quiet news month for all the other NHL teams and their fans. The season hasn't even started, let the results speak for themselves.

I remember watching Kadri in junior and I think he is overrated; his effort just wasn't there in most games. He has the tool set and some ridiculous skills, but, really, so did Rob Schrempf. For the skill that he has I really hope he doesn't end up like Schrempf. I don't care if he is 'only' 21, this is about attitude and commitment. I think what is Eakins is doing is lighting a fire; Eakins is well known for being a good motivator he, as well as the Leafs developmental staff, know how to get young players in the right direction. If they can do that, then hopefully Kadri becomes the player he is supposed to be.
