Karpovtsev to NYI for a 4th in 2005. Pick used to draft Hjalmarsson. Thanks for that!

From a Carolina standpoint:

Jiri Tlusty for Philippe Paradis

Tlusty has turned into a solid top 9 winger for us and was really the only player last season to show any chemistry with Staal. Paradis, is well, Philippe Paradis. I believe that Toronto eventually turned Paradis into Versteeg who then turned (I think) into Stuart Percy, so TOR didn't do too bad either.

Good for Philly:

ATL gets Alexei Zhitnik for Brayden Coburn

Bad for Philly:

Tyutin for Zherdev.

Rangers give up top pairing defenseman as of today for an enigmatic winger out of the NHL.

To Boston
Seidenberg
Bartkowski

To Florida
Bitz
Weller
2nd

Quiet trade, considered relatively minor at the time, but Seidenberg became a number two Dman in Boston and was very important in the cup run.

Question does the trade with NJ and Tor where a pick turned into Niedermayer get any love?

Not totally underrated, but I'm sure a lot of people don't know that Vancouver 'stole' Naslund from Philly for professional fireman Alex Stojanov

I'll start with the Lehtonen deal.

To Dallas: Kari Lehtonen
To Atlanta: Ivan Vishnevskiy and a 4th round pick

This deal happened late in the 2009/10 season. Lehtonen had undergone back surgery around the start of the season, and was only just getting back at the time of the trade, having played a few games in the AHL. He was set to become an RFA in the offseason, so I guess Atlanta didn't want to have to give him a new contract coming off a major injury. Dallas took the chance, and it paid off phenomenally well. He has been one of their best players since the trade, a very solid #1 goalie, and they literally got him for nothing. He was just 26 at the time of the trade too. They didn't even have to pay him that much as an RFA, signing him for 3 years to a $3.55 mil cap hit contract, then extending that contract for another 5 years (at a $5.9 mil cap hit) just a few weeks ago. Not often do you get a good, young #1 goalie for free, but that's exactly what Dallas did.
Doesn't this just add fuel to the fire about Atlanta's ****** owernship group. They signed off on this deal.

Were there contract or off ice issues, or was it simply a case of the smaller player being underrated, and the big power forward being overrated?
interesting, I honestly have no idea.

Some Oiler trades that go under the radar

Pronger

for

Smid, Lupul, conditional first if ducks won the cup- thank god (Eberle)

This trade looked horrible for the Oilers when it was made. But 2 of 3 form a critical core for the Oil

Penner

for

Klefbom, Tuebert, Zharkov

This is a harder trade to judge since only tuebert has played in the NHL. Penner did horrible in the regular season but pitched in during the playoffs.

It looks good for the Oilers tho since they got a top D prospect and a very decent boom/bust prospect in this years draft

Not really. Winnik is gone and Galiardi hasn't been much from what I remember Shark fans saying.

Maybe on the Leafs boards but in my opinion it doesn't get as much talk on the National Hockey League Talk boards.

That trade deadline and the following offseason was just awesome for Philly. When it was all said and done they brought in Coburn, Hartnell, Timonen, Biron and Upshall, while the only significant piece they gave up was an aging, injury riddled Forsberg on an expiring contract (don't get me wrong, Foppa was still awesome, but he played very few NHL games after this trade). Went from an absolutely awful 56 point team in 06/07 to a 95 point team that went to the conference finals in 07/08, one of the most dramatic turnarounds I've ever seen.

I'm glad we won that trade by miles, but I'm sad Bergfors didn't pan out. I liked him on the Devils. He went to teams that were rebuilding so it hurt his development a lot but by he time he joined a good team (NSH), he was terrible.

To be fair, the Rangers couldn't have known Zherdev was just plain crazy. He was the leading scorer the year he was there for them, having gone 23-35-58 +6 in all 82 games. The problem was he wanted to be paid the moon.

Had Zherdev been a bit more rational, it isn't unlikely that he would have been a 60-70 point winger for them on a line with Richards and Gaborik. Instead, he wanted to be paid more than was reasonable and wasn't willing to listen to the coaches.

Did hot-lanta ever make a good trade for themselves besides Hossa for Heatley? It seems like that got shafted in every other deal. Why do you think HFers propose a pile of garbage for star players? Because Atlanta kept accepting those kind of offers.

Never really got a shot in St. Louis because of his poor defensive play, too many mistakes like this one:

Columbus is a good place for him though, they'll excuse the mistakes due to the offence he brings, and maybe he'll round out his game once he gets more NHL experience.
