I just can't get into the KHL. I think it's lack of english commentators. I'm gonna have to watch more junior hockey.

A sports writer from Modo has posted on AIH:
http://www.arcticicehockey.com/2012-...2012#118122783

Quote:
Enström
Modo aren’t going to put Enström on their roster, at least not right now.

At first the SEL decided that teams weren’t allowed to have lockouted NHL players, but the Swedish Competition Authority ruled that the league can’t have that sort of regulation and Modo went and signed Alexander Steen. But the situation is still a bit shaky and Modo won’t add another NHL’er if things aren’t changing.

The background: The teams had an agreement that they wouldn’t sign lockouted players, but when Modos Samuel Påhlsson got injured the team wanted Alex Steen as a temporary replacement. A rule says that teams can’t add players on short-term contracts – unless a key player is injured, then it’s ok. But the league said that lockouted NHL players don’t apply to that rule and if Modo wanted to replace Påhlsson they had to search for players elsewhere.

That’s where the Swedish Competition Authority stepped in and dismissed the league’s rule, opening up for NHL’ers – leading to Modo’s signing of Steen.

But still: the teams had an agreement that they wouldn’t sign NHL players and since no one else seems willing to sign any NHL’ers right now Modo is laying low. They got to replace injured Påhlsson, as they wanted to, and right now they’re just waiting for things to develop. If there’s a flood of NHL players there is a big chance that they’ll let Enström play. And the Jets D is practicing with the team, that’s for sure.

Modo were about to put Enström on the roster earlier this week but I think the club board decided to chill for a while. There’s already a lot of anger coming from around the league, following the signing of Steen.

I don’t know how clear this post is, it’s kind of a complicated story, but I hope that it somehow explained a bit about the situation… I’m a sports reporter from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, home of Modo and Enström.

I hope Buff signs somewhere; would be nice to see him start the season in top form.

Thankfully Kane signed the NHL deal first. Otherwise the Winnipeg bashing/paranoia and outright stupidity on the main board would have been forum-crashingly bad.

Pav's numbers look pretty bad. Just three games but, man, that is a bad save%...and GAA. I'm assuming there is much weaker defence in the Czech Extraliga. Buff might look like a shut down defender to Pavs when he gets back to Winnipeg.

Good to see Kane playing somewhere and staying sharp. He's the guy I'm most looking forward to watching once the NHL gets its **** together. Reading about the latest problems with Nazem Kadri, makes me really appreciate what an elite young talent we have in Kane. Evander "gets it". Even if some Jets fan don't "get" him.

Honestly, I would be concerned if he had signed a KHL deal with no NHL deal. KHL does not allow NHL out-clauses. So any RFA that signs in the KHL might be stuck their all year. They have made a special exemption for NHL players under contract to be allowed to return to their teams should their be a season starting here, but any player not under contract (and RFA's are not under contract) might be stuck their for the whole year. I know that perhaps they would have a "Gentleman's agreement" to be released by the KHL club should a season start, but still.

Also, on those talking KHL...I love it. Great hockey, very exciting. I usually just open the KHL.ru website to get the roster and watch it on mute with the roster. My (adopted) team Slovan is on a huge roll, 5 wins in a row! But Malkin's Metallurg team is in town tommorrow...I gonna try to get up tmw to watch, it's a 6am start time here (1pm local in Bratislava).

I've watched about 4 games, but it just doesn't feel right to me. Need NHL back. Resorting to PVR'd Jets games from last year.

What about the Swiss League? I wanna see Nash and Thorton rip it up..

For those of you that don't use Chrome (I know who doesn't use Chrome right, but I hear through the grapevine that such people might still exist ) and therefore don't have the translation of the previous link, here's the TSN story about the Kane signing.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=406295

Also of note, Antropov is up to a ppg (I know just 3 games, but just saying )

All the more reason for me to follow Dinamo Minsk. I was already following because of Timmy.

Thorburn has been working out with the ECHL Gwinnett Gladiators along with former Thrasher Slava Kozlov. Don't know if Thorburn will actually sign with the Gladiators like a rumor has been going around but it would be cool to see.

Can Thorburn sign in the ECHL?
I know he wouldn't be allowed in the AHL because he wasn't on the clear list last season.... And ECHL tends to be the farm for the AHL so I would expect it to be similar if not the same.

A few players have signed with ECHL teams already and quite a few played in the E during the last lockout, so I assume it will be the same this time around.

Not sure about systems or how the scoring rates will look long term, but they aren't too crazy yet. For what it is worth, there are currently 23 Czech league goalies with better numbers and only 4 with worse numbers.

He also had Ladislav Smid on his team. I <3 Smid.

One of Kane's better friends on the team last year was the Stapler (who was everyone's friend) so perhaps EK was looking for a familiar face to play with while staying sharp. Tim is currently leading his team in scoring and is in the top 20 in scoring in the KHL....Congrads Stapler

just checked out the stats on the KHL site, looks like Kulda's off to a good start too.

He's averaging about 25 minutes per game, and has 6 goals in 11 games. Tied for first in the league in defensemen scoring.

Is he still Jets property?
