Excited for @WorcesterSharks camp to start up tomorrow, haven't seen this much talent in a dressing room since Victoria secret!

Wrenn is at the WorSharks camp on a PTO. He's signed with Alaska (ECHL)

Apparently Sheppard is eligble to sign an AHL contract.

http://www.sharksahl.com/story.asp?story_id=3231

Could have something to do w/ him not playing an NHL game over the past two season and the fact he didn't have an NHL contract...though I really have no idea.

Everything I have read shows that Sheppard is not eligible for an AHL contract during the lockout. I have confirmed that my understanding of the rule (which is an NHL locked out player cannot sign an AHL deal unless he was on a Clear Day list last season or finished last season in the AHL) is correct.

Looking forward to you clarifying this move for us. It's confusing for sure

Did Sheppard ever get called up after he was injured in Worcester last year? He was on the ice for camp today so I figured something was going on...

It appears that teams are only applying the rule to players currently under an NHL contract, which Sheppard as a RFA is not. That seems to be against the spirit of the rule which is to prevent "every day" NHL players from playing in the AHL.

So even though the team has the rights to him, he's not considered under contract and can sign? Odd, but at least he'll get some work in. Thanks for looking into the matter.

He did get recalled...he had to be recalled because San Jose messed up and tried to keep him on an injury rehab stint after the Clear Day roster was out (which is why he was a late scratch for one game because his eligibility was in question for that game).

That's what I'm hearing, that technically as a FA he's no longer part of the NHLPA so he's not locked out, so he can sign an AHL deal. That seems to fly in the face of what the rule was put in place for, but as long as every team knows that's the way it's done I guess it's fair.

Any chance that was the reason why he held out from signing the qualifying offer or do you think this is just how the cards fell?

Well...if I were Sheppard considering how the last couple of seasons have gone I would have signed my qualifying offer the second I got it. So to me that shows this was planned all along.

Great news. He needs to play in the AHL and get some games in to recover his NHL game. Glad this was possible. I hope he does not suck for the W Sharks :-)

I agree. While I'm glad he'll get some games in, I can't help but think this is sort of shadier if planned. Thanks for the insight.

Now that I'm thinking about the reason I got, I'm now not sure I'm buying that's the reason...if this were the case wouldn't we have seen lots of bigger named free agents signing as opposed to not playing during the lockout?

I think I'm going to keep digging here...

So aren't some of the people I've talked to about this in the last couple hours...and some of these people are folks that should know exactly what's going on.

I'm freaking out. So will he or won't he be able to center Marleau and Pavelski on the first line after Jumbo inevitably gets kidnapped in Switzerland?!!

Do you really think Sheppard has anywhere near the skills and talent to play on the first line now, or even a year or two down the road??

The San Francisco Bulls joining the ECHL has brought back memories of my playing days. They are fixing up the old Cow Palace which is...
71 years old. I received one of the biggest beatings I ever got in a fight there. I was new to the Spokane Comets and the trainer gave me
tight gloves and everyone knows a fighter needs loose ones. Larry McNabb was the heavy weight champion of the WHL. He was so big he had no
neck. The linesman tied me up and McNabb broke his hand on my head and was out for 8 weeks.

Worcester Sharks have posted a passel of videos on YouTube "SharksVision" channel) from camp, day 2. Multiple player interviews, clips from scrimmage, and even some commentary from Sommer on the scrimmage.
