He was very good defensively here. That was really the only instance of Nikitin being out of position and was mostly due to miscommunication.

For Columbus, he was quite good defensively so I don't really know what you are talking about. They wouldn't excuse poor defensive play from him and really havent had reason to.

Just ask Viqsi, she will show you how the Tyutin-Nikitin pairing was statistically similar to the Weber-Suter pairing.

Honestly, Lehtonen was done in Atlanta. It was just time to part ways. At least Vish was used in a trade with Chicago to get one of Ladd or Buff(can't remember which).

The Ladd and Buff deals were good. But that was finally after Waddell was promoted and we brought in Rick Dudley.

Mike Ribeiro

for

Janne Niinimaa

I'm not sure if Niinimaa played more than 10 games in the nhl after this trade while ribeiro had a ton of success

Salvador for Cam Janssen

Sal's time with the Devils has had its ups and downs (and he was actually re-signed since the trade), but his play in the playoffs last year was absolutely key and all the devils gave up was a lunatic without NHL talent (who they eventually brought back anyway )

If we judge that trade by the same standards by which folks judge Carter-to-CBJ, then this just means that the Rangers had done even worse because any decent GM should have known well in advance that that was going to happen.

That said, I agree that if he hadn't made those crazy contract demands he'd probably still be in the NHL. Maybe still on the Rangers as well... then again, seeing as though the Rangers have built themselves based on a highly work-ethic focused team ethos, it's questionable whether or not he'd be able to stay there. I mean, it's not like he never blocks shots, but it is kind of rare.

The funny thing is, Tyutin is also known for occasional crazy mistakes. Yet, when the two of them are together, suddenly the crazy mistakes - for both players - abruptly go away. It's like they read eachother's minds or something, and between the two of them one can realize when the other is about to screw up. It's bizarre.

That, by the way, was a mixup between Nikitin and John Moore, who had far more screwups as he simply wasn't ready for NHL play. Yet, thanks to blueline injuries, we were obliged to play him anyways... more than any other single blueliner, in fact.

Oh crud. Now I'm going to get flamed and/or laughed at even more...

The comparison is primarily in advanced stats. They had a similar effect w/r/t driving the play up the ice and were comparable defensively overall, in the same situations. They didn't score at nearly the same level, though, and Curtis Sanford ain't no Pekka Rinne. So I generally stop short of saying "they were right up there with Weber-Suter!!!!!!111one".

The link w/r/t same is here: http://nhlnumbers.com/2012/5/30/top-defensive-pairings

Oh, and to get back on the thread topic, and while we're talking blueliners and the Blue Jackets... we traded Adam McQuaid to Boston for a 5th round pick, because it looked like he wasn't going to sign here.

For additional bonus mind****, that 5th was in 2007, and was later one of the three traded to Dallas in 2007. They used it to select Jamie Benn.

Might be a bit of a stretch but Rene Bourque for a 2nd.

For all the bashing Bourque gets now, he was the player every team would want....He was at least.

Trading Pronger looks like it worked out for us, too.

Pronger

for

Lupul(traded for Beauchemin), Luca Sbisa, two firsts(Palmieri and Etem), and I think we traded back one of those firsts for the pick we used on Mat Clark. It's looking like a pretty good haul.

OT but. Neely and a 1st (Glen Wesley) for Barry Pederson.

Bruins went on to trade Wesley to the Whalers for 3 1st round picks (McLaren,Aitkens and Samsonov)

Bruins then traded Samsonov to the Oilers for Reasoner,Stastny and a 2nd.

And with that 2nd round pick the Bruins selected Milan Lucic.

Bruins at the deadline trade Oates,Tocchet and Ranford to the Caps in return for Allison, Anson Carter and Carey.

Carey was a bust, but Allison and Carter both became very good players for the Bruins and helped turn around the team.

I guess those count by rule, but let's not kid ourselves about those being "hockey trades". Chicago needed to dump salary.

Basically the same as when Philly shipped Gagne out for pennies on the dollar.

Larry Murphy for Jim Johnson gets lost in what the Pens did a few months later at the 91 deadline.

1. Anaheim acquires J.S. Giguere for a 2nd round pick in 2000 (who ended up being Matt Pettinger)

2. Boston trades Sammy Pahlsson to Anaheim for Patrick Traverse and Andrei Nazarov

3. Anaheim trades Mike Commodore and J.F. Damphousse to Calgary for Rob Niedermayer (helped both clubs for the two years before the lockout, and later on more so for Anaheim)

You can add to that Niedermayer trade Scott as well. Devils were lobbying to get Rob just to keep Scott. Whoever won the Rob Niedermayer sweepstakes also won the Scott Niedermayer sweepstakes.

The Flames Traded 1990 first round pick (#20-Martin Brodeur), 1990 second round pick (#24-David Harlock), 1990 second round pick (#29-Chris Gotziaman) to Devils for 1990 first round pick (#11-Trevor Kidd), 1990 second round pick (#32-Vesa Viitakoski).

Obviously trading draft pick can be a roll of the dice sometimes but I just find it funny the Flames thought so highly of Kidd that they traded up for him and the Devils ended up with the (much) better goalie.

the heatly/san jose trade was ironic, when he was traded people figured he may be get 50 goals again playing with Joe Thorton..................2 years later he has slowed down drastically and was traded to the wild
