Maxwell is really only a half decent LB, but I'd say Aurier was mostly impressive going forward. He's a very good crosser.

I have only seen minutes here and there of Reims so I can't comment much. But Reims is a team which tries to play offensive football despite limited ressources and I like their mindset.
And frankly, with a storied club like that it's what you hope for.

Well, he's making the most of great passes. The team plays for him and he's getting great delivery.
He has 5 goals.
The first one against Lorient was his own doing, long ball where he physically beat his defenseman in the air and he shot the ball because he kept his balance.
The second was a penalty (Lorient game too).
The third was a fantastic setup by Menez (Lille).
The fourth was a great pass by Pastore, he was then all alone against the keeper (Lille).
The fifth was a tap-in after a great pass by Menez (Toulouse).

Pretty nice goals this week-end.

Alain Traore scored 2 beauties from long range in Lorient 2-1 win.
Lyon second goal is a quick counter attack, very nice.
Reims also scored 3 pretty goals.
Sochaux had an acrobatic one.

Overall, a nice day in L1, some very good games.

Traore's goals were absolutely amazing.
Imagine the worldwide fuss if C. Ronaldo had scored them.

PSG win 4-0 at Bastia. Ibra with another double. At this pace he's going to score 40 I think.

Last time someone scored at this clip in L1 was D. Cissť in 2001.
He's starting this year the same way he started last year in Serie A (he scored 28 I think in the end).

BTW, Verratti assisted on Ibra's first goal with a beautiful chip (Nene's pass was nice for his second too).
He's really a mix between Gattuso and Pirlo. Gattuso' fierce character with Pirlo's soft never-panicking touch.

The Toulouse goalie scored the tying goal against Rennes in 90+6 last night

Yep, great strike. It has to be said, though, Lyon were terrible. It was the first time I've seen them this season and they certainly didn't impress last night. Slow, awful at the back - it seems there's no chemistry between the defenders.

On the other hand, I finally liked what I saw from Lille. Quick, direct, although very wasteful. Some inaccurate key passes, too, but I liked how active Roux, Mendes and Payet were. Hopefully they can bulid on that performance and they'll finally win at home in L1...

BTW my boy Krychowiak got an '8' from L'Equipe as he was the main man in Reims 2-0 win against Nancy, well done.

Lyon tried a new 4-4-2 system last night and they were awful.
They've been quite good this season however in a 4-3-3 with Grenier as #10 (he's been amazing).

Don't lt this game set your mind on Lyon's game, they've played better in the first 5 games than over the last half of the season last year.

Talking about Lyon...so sad for Gourcuff he got injured when it seemed he finally found some confidence in Lyon's mid field.

Having lived in Bordeaux during his two years there I keep having faith in him to raise his game to the next level and confirm it in EDF.

There has been some rumours that HE asked to Blanc not to select him for the Euro. If it had to be true that must mean a lot to his confidence level.

Hope in can bounce back once he returns.

It's quite possible because the guy was determined to heal completely and come back stronger than ever this year.
And unfortunately, he twisted his knee.
And unfortunately, his young replacement has been incredible.

But yeah, when he's on, he's one of those amazing game changing players that oozes class every time he touches the ball.

When you think that Grenier was almost sent to Nice the day before he got injured.

EVILO!!!

I was reading last week how the richest man in France is applying for Belgian citizenship, with the assumption it is to avoid the new tax rates. And it didn't even hit me how this might effect L1....whats your opinion on the matter?

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...ce-tax?cc=5901

Also was this why you posted in the Lounge a few weeks ago that you might leave France?

My opinion is that there's no problem for people hitting more than 1M€ a year to pay a 75% tax AFTER reaching the 1M€ plateau. Which means that if you "earn" 1.5M€ a year, only 0.5 will be subjected to that 75% tax.

I don't see a problem, these people "earn" that money thanks to people working and paying with much lesser salaries, so really if if they were taxed 100% over 1M€ a year, I wouldn't pity them. Getting 1M€ a year is absolutely non-sense in this world.

So far, it hasn't effected L1 much because quite simply, not many teams can afford to pay a player that much, and the teams that can are able to pay more so that it doesn't affect the player.
30.000 out of 60.000.000 people are concerned. Really it's just media trying to turn something of little importance into something big.

And no, unfortunately, I'm not the richest man in France...

I haven't studied the details of this proposed tax law, but if it works like you described I could see it being a problem for a handful of the few very best players in L1.

While the likes of PSG could pay more to their players to compensate for added taxes (not sure how that would fit the FFP rules though), generally speaking I think the chances of those making 1m+ moving abroad will get sunstantially higher.

How many players make more than 1m+ in salaries (or around 20 000 a week) in L1?

BTW, Gameiro is getting his first start this year, and he scores 2 in the first 30 minutes.

Valenciennes is a tough stadium to play against. ANd OM usually loses there.
So I had penciled VA as winners. But really, I could never forsee such a blowout.

Sure, it's Mandanda's career blunder, no doubt.
But he also saved three goals with amazing saves as well.
