Thanks DRex for the Junior updates. I think Pelech was an absolute steal in the 3rd round. That kid McDavid is looking like the goods.

So I shouldn't be a fan of Dmitry Kulikov because Malakhov was a disappointment? I really can't believe anyone would be a fan of a Canadian forward after Alexander Daigle...

I was just listening to the game and had on the Peterborough broadcast.
The announcers were raving about McDavid.

Pelech is very reliable in his own. Not flashy, just efficient.
Last night he made good first passes and had some shots on goal.
He had a really good game tonight.

Can't see him turning into a fighter, but will continue being physical in every other way he can.
The key for Jesse has always been simple: Stop fancying himself as a playmaker and start using that body to muck things up and make life miserable for opposing Dmen.

He does that, then the skills and hands he has will lead him to offensive chances as well.

But he has to concentrate on being a mean, dirty-areas worker. Then nothing will stand in the way of an NHL career.

It would be HUGE for the Islanders if this NHL season could still fit in 50 some games as of November and Jesse could come back and be a 10-10-20 player. Just huge.

In case there's no NHL season and we have a good chance for MacKinnon's ping pong ball..

He had a sweet, sweet goal last night before he got a fighting major and a game misconduct in HFX's (really crappy) 6-1 loss to Gatineau in their home opener.

BTW, MacKinnon wears #22...

9,800 people packing the Metro Centre for a Q game sure helps to make up for no NHL.

Wonderful, a nice cold, small-town winter spot where he can concentrate solely on hockey without any lures of party from the general surroundings.

Super!

Does anyone know, how strong a team Koskinen is playing behind ? Those are disappointing win/loss/save % numbers.

His team KaiPa Kuopio was VERY strong last year (finished first and went 44-16 in total - Koskinen played 25 of those games in the regular season). As far as I know, they are expected to at least be middle of the road this season. As opposed to some other teams, they only have one foreigner in their team, and he's not really a guy we'd know (a Swede by the name of Masuhr). Other teams definitely have bigger names in their line-ups, at least to date.

Other than Sami Kapanen, who is now 39, and Jukka Hentunen, who once played 28 games for Calgary, there really aren't any players of note who the well-informed NHL fan would even recognize. Of special interest is however Artturi Lehkonen, a 17 year-old who was expected to be a top 90 draft pick in the 2013 draft, but who has already started skyrocketing up the draft list by starting 3-5-8 in 7 games. Definitely a name to keep an eye on.

In addition to that, Ville Pokka has 0-1-1, 0 PM, +1 in 2 games for Kärpät (including 3 pointless games for Kärpät U20)

Thanks for the info. It sounds like Koskinen is playing behind a good team.

......And is converted back to being a center. Breaks him up from Tynan but gives him more responsibilty to carry his line.

That's pretty cool. I'm interested to see how he performs this year after the season he had last year. I have pretty high hopes for this guy. Not necessarily becoming a star player but definitely a solid 3rd or 4th liner.

Joensuu scored two goals (second one was the game-winning goal) and had one assist in today's game. One heck of a guy.
