Sedin's contract ends in the near future. Kovalchuk's extends into oblivion. If contracts are an issue, I take Sedin. If they aren't and we're looking at this in a vacuum, I take Kovalchuk.

Hmm, ok, my mistake. The larger point is still valid though, the Flyers managed to jettison most of their old guard very quickly in just a couple trades.

And yes, I agree. Gagne was a Devil killer, we were glad to see him traded away for pots and pans.

Even as a Devils fan, I miss Gagne on the Flyers. I won't miss him killing the Devils 6 times a year, but I miss the duels between him and Elias as to who could kill the other team more.

I'd do the same, but with Datsyuk and Weber, I would certainly think twice.

Hahaha, yeah. We can't cancel him out anymore. I'm pretty sure Elias will somehow continue racking up points against the Flyers even after he retires.

Gagne is the only one of those ex Flyers/current Kings that I don't dislike.

I don't dislike Richards too much, and Carter I always particularly disliked but never had too much of a problem with Gagne. I always thought of Gagne like I do Malkin. Like to watch them unless they're playing us. I feel the same about Giroux.

Gagne's a great guy, and he went through a lot. He almost won a cup with Philly several times, then came close with the Lightning, then finally got one with LA.

I have nothing but respect for that man. Even if he did bury us alive not long ago. That's just more reason to respect the guy. As long as he never wears a Rangers jersey.

On here, we used to joke that Elias should be required to change his name to Comcast, because he owns the Flyers.

Sedin is the easy choice over Kovalchuk. Sedin has averaged 96/PTS a season the last threeyears and is probably the best playmaker in the game after Crosby and Malkin. 61 assists each year since 2006. Furthermore, when Sedin is on the ice, the puck is usually in the other team's zone.

We're talking about Henrik, right? (EDIT: nvmd, yes, that's the name of the thread).

I wish we had the kind of depth where we could keep Kovy & Elias on the same line together.

They read each other incredibly well during the few games they played together.

Can't believe we never tried Kovalchuk-Elias-Sykora. The lines that we could've had after that would've been incredible.

Kovalchuk-Elias-Sykora
Parise-Zajac-Zubrus
Poni-Henrique-Clarkson

One of Kovy or Sykora on the line is enough I think.

Itd be potent goal scoring - but with Kovy's turnovers and Sykora's weakness on the puck when he's not shooting it.... that's best left for a PP.

That and Sykora-Henrique-Zubrus. They were always f---ing awesome coming off a PP, seemed like they always held the other team in their zone.

They were never used on even strength. Would've given Elias the chance to center ZP and Kovalchuk too.

Elias only got to play with them when Henrique was out.
Unfortunately, the numbers game didn't let both of Sykora and Josefson play at the same time when all were healthy in the playoffs.

Bumping up Henrique would have left a hole at the 3rd line center position.
Someone else would have had to sit... can't even think of who.

We pretty much iced the same roster the entire playoffs, when JJ came back, we switched him with Sykie.

When Kovy was hurt we put Harrold in, and when Carter was sick, Sestito played.

Daniel missed the last 20 games of 09-10 and Henrik's scoring pace stayed exactly the same, and he won the Art Ross. Not sure what the fancy stats say, but Henrik on his own certainly passed the eye test.
