They'll double the amount of Danes in SM-Liiga history. Only Hardt, Galbraith and Simon Nielsen have played in SM-Liiga before this season.

Yeah, but too early to panic, thought. Its not just teuvo, it has been whole team Jokerit. And he hasnt been horrible neither, there's a good chance that the points start coming up.

Yes and all the danish players has come in the recent years. Nichlas Hardt as the first in Tappara in 2007-08. It's good to see that it can be an alternative for going to Sweden. Before Hardt went I don't think it was even considered among danish players. Now danish three NHL'ers choose SM-liiga before Sweden. (and even Erik Karlsson did to everyones surprise!)
Maybe it's the lure of the hybrid rink, that makes it easier to adjust your game going back and forth from North America?? or is there another explanation, anyone??

SM-Liiga is not that much worser than Elitserien, and maybe danes have also now seen that fact. While it might have bit lower level on paper (usually atleast) it has more north american style of play, as experts have analyzed it (for Example KalPa's adam andersson, (Adam Mashur these days, who was earlier elitserien player). Its not all about the rink size, but the rink sizes may act as a factor there adjusting the style a bit..

Thats why many players who aim for NHL may perfer it. Elitserien still is good for aiming in the NHL thought, it has tons of NHL scouts on its ground. But SM-Liiga is well scouted too, for goalies it right now might be best league, as level and reputation of goalie coaching of Finland is high. Also the salaries arent that bad as you might guess, thinkin about Finlands population ect, specially if you are top players in your team.

About Erik Karlsson, I dont know for absolutely sure whats behind it. Jokerit GM said they were the first choise for him all the time, but im not sure about that at all. It doesnt prove much really, hes above the level of any league. He had to play somewhere where they will pay hes insurance and give atleast some kind of earnings for hes work, and the eastish KHL just does not buy everyones interest. Maybe part of it is the style of play, in Sweden its litle slower (does not mean worser) style of play, that does not adjust you for the NHL, but does it really matter for him I dunno, its hockey everywhere.

First I would say thank you for this excellent reply
Maybe you have a good point about the playing style. In Sweden a lot of voices also complain that the swedish playing style is becomming to slow and defensive with a low scoring rate. For a NHL player a league that is as close to NHL type of play will off course be preferable in a lockout situation, whereas the adjustment to swedish hockey might take longer.
Your reply then certainly explains why 2 of the top-3 danish goalkeepers (Galbraith and Simon Nielsen) suddenly appeared in Finland these last years. They choose it for their development.

The source is so-so, but according to a rumor, Riku Hahl will be travelling to Gothenburg on Monday to finalize details for his return to Frölunda. Thoughts?

Sounds good. The SEL is a better fit for his playing qualities.

What? Why would Jokerit get rid of it's most valuable forward (after V. Filppula)? He should be back from the injury soon, why would Frölunda hire an injured man?

Unless this is Kekäläinen's way of keeping Karlsson in Jokerit...

It is a strange rumor. I'm sure it will be turn out to be BS in the end, but Frölunda loves to sign injured players; dumb management.

Would be ironic if Frölunda helped Jokerit keep Karlsson.

That rumour sounds extremely stupid. I can't even come up with one reason for him to do that.

Teuvo is playing the center role and he is not ready for it in SM-Liiga level... too much pressure on his shoulders plus his linemates have been awful too. They should move him back to wing asap. He just needs to find his confidence back and also wait when the real coaches come back from their suspensions.

And that Riku Hahl rumor made me laugh...why would Hahl move there when he is under a contract with Jokerit and he is very important player for the team... makes tons of work that gets often unnoticed.

The coaches are only banned from associating with the team during the games, starting two hours before the puck drops. They can take part in training since that doesn't fall under the category of "toimitsijakielto".

Will Teuvo go to WJC again? Does SM-Liiga release younger players for that?

Re: his current play - it would horrible if he develops confidence problems...b/c he's young to begin with...he was one of the youngest players in the draft...people talked a lot about how young Mark Jankowski was...but Teuvo was only a couple of days older - and obviously doesn't have a lot of size.

How's his defense - how would it translate (eventually) in the NHL? Does he have any upside there or is he more the elite offense/defensive blackhole type?

ETA - one thing i was wondering was, simply in terms of his development for NHL play, do you think it was wise for him to stay in a Finnish men's league - where he's playing more competitive hockey against "adults" - or would he have benefited from playing somewhere in the CHL where the competition was younger/easier but it's NHL-style and he would have had the opportunity to dominate? That's probably not a fair question b/c I know you're fans of Finnish hockey (and maybe don't watch the CHL too much) - but I was wondering what your thoughts were.

SM-liiga teams will release their players to WJC, no problem with that.

One thing that made more Danes willing to play in Finland is that between 1997-98 and 2008-09 the teams had "gentleman's agreement" about foreign players, where EU nationals were among foreigners, while now they are not. Only Hardt played in SM-liiga during that period of twelve seasons.
