I could also see them arriving at this dubious conclusion if they've decided to trade Ott and let Burish walk. That's 2 guys at 55% faceoffs you're subtracting from the team. That could be concerning them enough to backtrack on one of the few successes of these past years. Maybe they intend on keeping Ribeiro until at least the trade deadline knowing his value remains low. They'll bring in a new center, move Benn back to wing to start the season, and then switch him back to the pivot after they flip Ribs in February.

His size and reach combined with his strength on the puck make him more suited to a center's role IMO.

I'm fine with him being a Zetterberg tweener type but it should be clear that if he gets moved from center to the wing that it's because the best option for a talented linemate that could be found is a less adaptive player who is "only" a center, like Brad Richards, Modano, etc.
I think this is some kind of behind the scenes game. Either Benn is privately unhappy at C, and this is noise to convince him to accept less $, or the team is making a push for a 2C like Stoll (sticktap to BigG44 in the other thread), promising a top 6 role to entice a guy like that to sign in Dallas.

Gully said that about himself ... his performance this season.

I've been trying to figure out what an "A" would be, and I think an "A" would have just been making the playoffs.

Honestly, I think when you consider he didn't have James Neal, Brad Richards, or a 30 goal scoring Brenden Morrow in the Top 6 like Marc Crawford did, a "B" is pretty close. Maybe you could say "B-" or "C+", but I don't think he was terrible.

Ryder more than replaced Morrow's production, but Neal's 20 goals with Dallas weren't replaced. Plus, if you want to argue that Benn replaced Richards' production then no one replaced Benn's production (50+ points) on the 3rd line.

Overall, he still took a much weaker team close to the playoffs. That's not good enough, and I'm not trying to make excuses. I just think even though the team picked up fewer points they weren't worse than the previous year.

Probably wouldn't give him an out clause. And maybe he really wanted to go to Germany.

Decent money, nice place to live, a lot of Canadian people there. Sweden is hestitant to sign players, the Swiss teams in the NLA are about full now. I'm surprised more haven't signed in the DEL, lot's when last time.

It's obviously his great passion for beer. But if he really was the next Modano he'd go to Italy instead.

Great to see!

I'm happy Benn's at least getting some hockey in this year, because this lockout's going to drag on forever. Both sides know it will, too, and have probably known for a while. So this exodus to Europe is fine by me.

Jamie had his press conference today:

He said it was boring to train in the gym without a competition so he decided to play in Europe.

He is very glad that Matt Pettinger a native Canadian from Victoria BC is also in the team. A few days ago he had a phone call with him what he thinks about Hamburg and if he should do the challange. After the call he decided "Let's do it".

Jamie thinks the championship race is very close and almost every team can win it, there are not so many powerhouses in DEL who are a clear contender.

He is very excited about the fans because the are always very loud and push their team to the limit. Jamie ist very please to get such an experience.

He doesn't care if he will be set in the first or third line, he just wants to show is offensive skills and help the team.

Here's an interview:
http://www.hamburg-freezers.de/index...eezers_tv.html

Btw his new jersey number is #24, #14 is allocated.

I'm glad he's going to be playing. I guess his agent wasn't able to keep him off the ice after all.

I have to say playing in Germany makes a lot of sense if you figure that he's got this NHL thing sort of figured out so it's not like he's trying to learn hockey. He just needs to play some games and enjoy it. Germany is supposed to be a great place to live and I can't say I'd pass up the opportunity to live in mainlaind Europe during my 20's if given the chance.

I'm actually headed to Germany in a few weeks. Just checked Hamburg's schedule, and they're scheduled to play in Munich two days after I leave.

I'll definitely be looking for Benn jerseys while I'm there though.
