Grabovski for a 2nd and a prospect.

Thought Grabovski was going to be another Suglobov/Gamache. Glad I was wrong.

Heatley and a 5th for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a 2nd. I thought it was terrible value and thought Heatley should have been worth more. Now, Heatley isn't nearly as good as he use to be, and Milan is finding his stride, coming off a great year. Personally, with his salary, defensive play, and hopefully his injured past behind him, I would take him over Heatley straight up.

Jukka Hentunen from Calgary to Nashville for a conditional draft pick. Really thought he was going to make the NHL full time. One of the best neutral zone players of the modern era and also a fiesty guy with a wicked shot and good hockey sense. Scored 1+1 in his first game with the preds and then pretty much sucked and came back to Europe.

Cory Stillman for Craig Conroy. I thought we were getting a 4th line center for our 2nd best offensive player. Both guys had nice careers, but Conroy turned into one of my favorite Flames.

This definitely surprised me. To say Kaberle was bad is a woeful understatement at best. He was absolutely horrid for the Bruins and little better for Carolina.

Wasn't Grabovski essentially a gift so Montreal could grab Sundin's rights?

I was doubting about the Jason Chimera trade as I still believed that Chris Clark will bounce back.

Was willing to give Fletcher the benefit of the doubt with the Cam Barker for Nick Leddy and Kim Johnsson trade.

Sure, Leddy at the time was an extremely raw prospect that had an okay season with the Gophers, and Johnsson was sure-bet not being a Wild player anymore...

But Leddy is still a first round pick, and was traded for Barker, who was completely useless...

Kaberle had never been the same player since the Janssen cheap shot. He never recovered from that concussion.

Grabo had nothing to do with Sundin. Grabovski and the Kostitsyn brothers, who were at one time the best of friends, hated each other. The Habs chose to keep the brothers and move Grabo ASAP. Grabo was known to have an attitude problem as well. He came to Toronto with a chip on his shoulder. Had he not been dealt, I really wonder what would have happened with him. I'm not sure he would be the player he is today.

The Beauchemin trade. This isn't about value or anything, but I thought Beauch's best days were behind him. I would never have guessed that he would leapfrog Lubo and Toni. It makes me wonder if Schenn might follow suit in Philly.

From recent memory:

"Oh man! Franson is for sure going to be a top 4 defenseman in this league! Lombardi was a nice toss-in too despite his cap-hit! What's that? Lombardi will be healthy for the start of the season? Yes! Take that, Predators!"

I still think Franson can be a top 4 defenseman and I'm one of the few Leafers that believe in him. Lombardi, on the other hand, was the worst and most infuriating player for me to watch last season. I would've rather had Frederick Sjostrom.

I thought Sami Pahlsson would be a useful checking line center when the Hawks got him before the '09 playoffs.

He was...not useful.

Any trade where you get rid of Colby Cohen is a clear win.

Matt Ellison for Patrick Sharp.

Sharp, although tough and a lot of heart, was nothing more than a 3rd liner-max.

I thought we got robbed blind on the Halak trade but Lars Eller is turning into a good player and I'm obviously happy we kept Price.

I couldn't believe Toronto did that at the time. Still can't. Awful move.

Fletcher should not have been the interim. However it was necessary in order to land Burke at the end of the year. Glad it happened even though, Finger, Stempniak and Schenn werent the best of choices...

First one to mind for the Avs was Wolski for Mueller and Porter. It could have been so good if Mueller hadn't been injured. Ultimately though we got more out of Mueller and Porter than we would have out of Wolski over the same period.

Scott Hannan for Fleischmann was another one which at the time was horrible (hey we have no defencemen who can play defence, lets trade our only defensive guy!) but which could have worked a lot better if Flash stayed healthy.

The EJ trade was very bad to begin with before Stewart flopped and McClement became a penalty killing demi-God. It's a bit worse now though that McClement's gone. Hopefully Siemens makes up for that.

1st for Varlamov made me angry. Then I saw Varlamov play and I didn't care at all.

Lupul + Gardiner for Beauchemin has really impressed me as a leaf fan.

Immediately after the trade articles of how Lupul was injury prone and washed up surfaced along with Gardiner no longer being a top 75 prospect from the 2008 draft. Makes me happy to look back and know that the leafs came out with everything they were expecting from the deal and more.

Take a read of the article below. Pretty hilarious. Came out 3 days after the trade.

Apparently he had told Habs brass he was going to the KHL if he wasn't traded...so I guess he'd be there.
