Its quite normal in Russia, people dont like when someone is good at what he does. Especially in sport, especially with kids. All the parents tnink that their child is the most talented in the world and many of them just cant understand that there can be someone better, as a result we have many different rumors. Not only Grigs suffered from that. I read same things about Yakupov(that he is 91 indeed, still a year younger than Grigs according to that information) Kitsyn, Petrov, Dvurechensky, Nichushkin(just because he is too tall, lol) russian 97 prospect Ivan Kashtanov("normal 97 kid cant play the way he plays at this age" - one of the arguments on russian forum) Kovalchuk and Ovechkin.

It'll be interesting to see if that carries through to the NHL. Thornton used to score in junior (in his draft year: 41g in 59 games and 11g in 11 games in the playoffs). He's still a solid scorer 11 20g+ season another 1 prorated (9 in 20). Only season he missed 20 since he was a teen was 2011-12 (18g).

Unimpressive for a 32 year old playing in the Q.

If the lockout is full year round, Sportsnet should jump on that Quebec Moose re-match in January for Friday night hockey at the Coliseum

To be fair, I am not sure if Grigorenko would mix well with Yakupov. They're both players who love to handle the puck and control the pace, and their paces are completely different. Since RNH and Eberle have developed great chemistry, it would make no sense for Ebs to moved down to the second line.

I'm sure that something could've worked out. I heard that they didn't play so well together earlier this summer so you could very well be right on them not being a good match.

He really gets around the ice quite well for a fifty two year old with a hip replacement and glaucoma.

If Grigs could become half the player Joe T is I would be extremely happy.

The miracle of of modern science.

But seriously, being in Saskatoon I'm hoping for the Remparts to make the Memorial Cup so I can watch him.

Halifax would be fine too.

I'd hope for a little more than half, but if he ends up even close to as good as Jumbo Joe, the Sabres will be better at center than they have in a long, long time. I definitely agree with that as his playing style though. Big but not really physical, great vision, and the ability to put passes right through defenders. Grigorenko could be the answer to 2 things Buffalo's needed for a while, actually: a real top line center and a good PP QB.

This. For the wjc they need to find someone who has chemistry with yak. Grigo is great with kucherov.

Talking about Kucherov, he started on-ice training with contact today. He should make a comeback very soon. Grigorenko-Kucherov will crush the QMJHL.

What a pick for the Sabres.

Was it really the poor playoff showing that made him drop so much?
or the "Russian" factor at work?

Both I would say, if he can turn out to be a 70 pt player, I think we'll be in good hands with all the young talent we have coming up anyways. He's not terrible defensively like people say he is.

Yeah, I watched him for the first time this season last night and wasn't overly impressed.
He was just okay at best.

Still going to write it off for now, but he didn't look like he did last year.

I'm sure he is also lacking true motivation at his current level.

He wanted to play in the NHL this year. I can see him getting bored. Too bad he can't play in the AHL.

If you get bored winning hockey games and trying to improve your game so you can prove your haters wrong... there's no hope for you.

It's not like Grigorenko is dominating on the ice. He still has lots of flaws to overcome. It would be very condescending of him to think he has nothing to learn from that league anymore, because he does.

Yesterday was a pretty boring game overall... they have 6 games in 9 days, so it's quite normal to keep your energy for bigger challenges coming next weekend.
