Package that pick with Klotz for a future hall of fame defenseman

There is no possible way we would get a 1st overall unless we got lucky and traded for it...

...that's not true.

If they used a similar system to 2005, we'd have approximately a 2 percent chance of winning.

EDIT--Krishna got it below.

Basically, it doesn't go (purely) by record, and certainly not 2011-2012 record. It is a lottery that assigns each team an increasing number of opportunity to win based on 1) not making the playoffs, and 2) not getting the top pick.

So, for example, we'd have the same mathematical chance as Edmonton.

I picked draft Jones, and I think that's the right call.

I don't think I would want to trade down, but if MacKinnon explodes, then you might need to reconsider your options--maybe you deal the pick for a young, stud defenseman. Or maybe that frees up one of our other young players to become a trade chip.

I dont understand what you are getting at with the bottom of the league stuff? 16 other teams have the same chance we do. 6 have a 4 pct chance as opposed to 2 and 7 get a 6 pct chance. It has nothing to do with standings as there would not be any standings this is in case the league locked out... Not only that, but as I recall it was not just the 1st pick that they had a lottery for it was the whole round, so we would get a chance at the 2nd and the 3rd and the 4th and so on and so forth until all the teams draft position had been decided. Also I believe that the last lockout it was a snake draft rather then your standard #1 pick also gets 31st it would be #1 gets the 60th number 30 gets the 31st

Fun Fact:

Flyers have never been AWARDED a first overall pick, since their inception. A handful of other teams could say the same thing, but all of them are younger than the Flyers.

Therefore, if the entire season is lost due to lockout I say the Flyers should get the first overall pick... fair is fair.

Always draft BPA. Seems to be MacKinnon.

I don't think it is that clear, and the BPA thing can get a bit cliched. If a team has a similar grade on MacKinnon and Jones, they should take whichever holds more positional value; for us, that would be Jones.

(If, of couse, they see substantial flaws in Jones' game, it is a different situation.)

I'd wait until after the season, but if MacKinnon is the BPA, you have to take him.

They seem to really be setting Schenn up as a winger. In the AHL they are currently using him as a first line winger, so there is a chance that McKinnon COULD be picked (even if we picked Laughton who I think is just gonna be an energy, some points, 3rd line center. Nothing against him, just what I think is going to happen).

That being said though, I think you HAVE to take someone like Jones. Knowing the Flyers though, they take a player ranked in the mid first round (well kinda sarcasm).

I'd be ok with them doing that if they picked Zadorov.

QFE. You take the best player available every single time. I'm not sure it's MacKinnon or Jones or someone else. Time will tell that.

Are you a hockey fan or a draft pick fetishist?

At this point I'm taking MacKinnon and not thinking twice. You take the BPA, and while I think Seth Jones will be a good player I think MacKinnon has superstar potential.

It comes down to winning for me. In a very top heavy talented draft, a player that could improve our chances over the long term might put us closer to winning than a season where we are unlikely to win it all.... not to mention the other benefits a lockout has for our young players and their progression.

It's a fantasy question, so just go with it.

Trade down. Homer has an eye for the draft. Get a kings ransom for MacKinnon. Draft a defensive prospect wherever they trade for.
