Cubs fans, did you see what Soriano said today? I honestly came around on him this year, and enjoyed his effort on both sides of play. Now, I want to smash his ****ing head with a cricket bat.
He pretty much said that if the Cubs don't rebuild soon enough for him, he doesn't want to be on the team, and they need to cater to him and his age. Maybe it just came across wrong when I read it, but for him to refuse a trade this year mid-season, and now all of the sudden being open to the idea so he can get a ring? Just pissed me off.
Hey, void the rest of the contract then, see if you can get signed for a starting job elsewhere and see for how much. Nobody is standing in his way.
As amazing as that would be... he's guaranteed $54M over the next 3 years, and he'd never get that on the open market. He wouldn't get that over 5 years if he were a FA after this year and looking for a team.
Exactly, if it doesn't mean enough to him to forgo the money, shut the **** up about it. He can play for free and give the Cubs an extra 18.6M to spend on free agents if it means so much.
Hoyer said there were gonna go hard after pitching in FA, it's the clear weakness, I'm sure we'll get some guys, maybe break 75 wins, progress, then second half the next year, we're solid and getting a few star prospects up.
I don't see what's wrong with what Sori said: if the Cubs are going to try to compete, I want to be a part of it. If they're going long term rebuild, it would be best for both myself and the team if they traded me...sounds right to me.
Also for the playoffs: I'm reluctant to pick the Cardinals because they have to win a 1 game playoff, but they look really good right now. Wouldn't that be hell, a Cardinals repeat World Series?

It's his right as a 10/5 to void any trade he doesn't approve of. I think the Cubs will be able to find a suitor. 32 HR and 108 RBI is something plenty of teams would love to add. How much of the contract the Cubs will need to eat remains to be seen.

This should make you happy, his value hasn't been higher since he became a Cub. If he's willing to go, then trade him this off season and pick up some valuable prospects. We'd have to sign a stop gap in left but that isn't a big deal. With his money off the books, thats $18 mil more for the 2014 season....the season the Cubs think they can start competing.
Ventura blew the season. completely lost the club at the end of the year and gave away too many games by making ****** pitching decisions and running into outs/managing like a 1960's dumb ****. he's no better than Ozzie, just quieter.
He might now. Remember, at the trade deadline the Cubs were absolutely rolling. They had the best record in the majors post all star break. Maybe he thought they were on their way back and then he saw them trade 40% of their pitching staff and shut down 40% more for the season and realized they aren't trying to compete this year or next. Staring down a 100 loss season again at 38 years old may have changed his mind.
Unless the Cubs do something like sign Greinke, Sanchez and McCarthy, I don't see how they can compete next year. I think Sori needs to fully accept he will be washed up and on the bench by the time this team is good. The Cubs are just too far away roster wise.

I think they can be better next year. Hell, if they didn't make all of those trades at the deadline, they may have won 75 games this season. Problem is, I think there's a great chance they move 4-5 guys at the deadline again next season. If they move Soriano and Garza, they basically have no big contracts going into the 2013 season. I think they take another look at their minor league system and see how guys are progressing, and make their move for players in 2014 when hopefully Vizcaino will be ready for a full season and hopefully their top draft pick (a college pitcher) is ready to step into the big club.
Agreed, 2014 is the year. And yeah, I think the college pitcher they take in round 1 this year and Baez will be ready by the second half.
Baez ready by the 2nd half of 2014? Not sure of that yet. He struggled in Dayton this year in limited at bats. Now if he shreds Dayton and is killing it in Tennessee next year then ya but I think 2015 is the earliest for him. He's only 19.

Even then, they're far away. I'm hoping for Scott Baker by the way
