I'm cautiously optimistic on these talks this weekend. The fact that they planned 3 days strait seems to indicate they may be serious on hashing something out

If not then I'm seriously considering going to this camp to take my mind off hockey

I'm pretty optimistic that progress will be made in the coming days. But I've already joined that camp just in case.

Should the sens consider trading Michalek?

While he is our only established top six winger outside of Alfie (who will probably retire this season or next), he appears to be too injury prone. With Michalek being forced to take on another surgery, there is certainly a risk that his value (both in regards to his ability to contribute on the team and his market value as a tradeable asset) will diminish substantially over the next few years. Therefore is is in the organizations best interest to trade Michalek before he falls apart any further?

And for that matter, what is Michalek's trade value at this point? In NHL 13 I traded Michalek and a 3rd round pick for Curtiss Glencross. I thought it was an overpayment, but maybe Michalek's value has dropped due to all his injuries.

*fingers crossed* Going into this season (providing there is one) I think this is a question BM needs to seriously think about at the deadline. If Ottawa is going to just sneak in once again, or if they are below eight, then it would be the perfect time to trade Michalek at the deadline.

The guy has two years left on his contract, so he wouldn't be a rental, and therefore he could fetch a decent panic package if BM decides he isn't in Ottawa's long-term plans.

Let's say he has a similar season to this past one. I think some teams looking to win a championship might pay a pretty penny to pick up a twenty to thirty goal scorer. At twenty eight years old he is probably only going to be getting worse, so if Ottawa doesn't plan to keep him past the current contract they are better off moving him at his highest value.

That's the number of games played by Milan in his 7 NHL seasons

He played 524 games out of 574 possible games... 91.29%

I guess that makes Alfredsson super injury-prone...

He played 1131 games out of 1312 possible games... 86.20%

lol I'm sure 91% is better than the average NHLer...

Is this for real? You're basing real life trade value on a crappy video game? Seriously?

No, I was simply using it as a reference point. Glencross has put up similar point totals to Michalek and I found it interesting that the video game required an additional pick to acquire him. Therefore I am interested to see how Michalek's injuries have effected his trade value.

I'd agree that Michalek probably had a career year this year and his value is 'at its highest'.

That said, I wouldn't look to shop him now. There's more to hockey than simply trading players when their value is at its highest. We need Michalek to provide a veteran, established influence for our top-6, especially considering Alfredsson's on his last legs.

I like Michalek but his awful playoff performance history makes it hard for me to argue that he should be in the Senators long term plans.

alfie commenting,

if the lockout lasts all year and he doesn't play again, that's fine with him.
(on tsn)

sounds like he's thinking about not playing again
I was kind of expecting him to come back next yr if this yr is lost.

All I know is if Alfie's career ends because of the lockout, I'm going to go ballistic.

The NHL isn't going to see a cent of my money for years.

We're not going to lose a whole season over these issues.

A shortened season will probably benefit the old guys like Alfie and Selanne, etc.

Less games, less travel, less everything.

Basically just confirming what we expected to hear from him. I will be very disappointed if this is how Alfies career ends. Here is to hoping for at least some games with #11 on the ice this season.

Ok good

Let's trade Karlsson and Spezza too, while their value might be at their highest

PS : you guys realize there was only 57 forwards with 60 pts or more in the NHL last year????? That's not even 2 per team...

I'd say if you score 60 pts in today's NHL, you're a pretty darn good player. Trading Michalek for what? For Bobby Ryan? Sure, but for a mid 1st round pick, a 3rd liner and a prospect? Hell no

I'm glad that there can be only be 30 NHL GMs at the same time.

I am not against trading Michalek.
We are not close to contending yet. By the time we are ready, Milan may not even be around then.

What if we could get a Brandom Gormley for him? I want us to have an amazing core of players for the next long while.
Not just finishing between 7th and 11th
