I'd definitely be into a Tallinder++ for Franzen deal.

Probably Franzen. You can never have enough big bodies in the top 6.

I've always had a bit of a man crush on Filppula plus it would be cool to have 3 Finns in our top 6.

Here is the secret, the team that has him now is getting sweet value for him because he is producing at a $5M+ level with a cap hit like his.

If someone trades for him in a couple years they will get the injured shell of a player that they are stuck using $4M in cap space on (see: Luongo in about 3 years....)

There. A big, crazy, three-way trade. Vancouver gets Franzen, Detroit gets Kulikov, and Florida gets a few solid pieces.
I don't see the value for Detroit here. At all.

It was a joke proposal meant to rib me for bringing in Luongo. Don't take it too seriously.

Actually, I thought Detroit got the best deal here by getting Kulikov. It's funny that you say that. Burrows and Bertuzzi on the same line would be a force to be reckoned with, I think. Kulikov is the best piece in the entire trade in my opinion. Then a high second rounder to boot?

Again, that trade was a joke, it's just interesting that you think Detroit loses.

Not really hard to score goals when you play with Datsyuk.

So we give up Franzen and two picks/prospects for somebody as overpaid as Campbell, in his mid-30s...

Yeeaaahhh.

And I don't think Filppula should be traded, especially not with as low as his value is on a one-year contract.

You know that Campbell was born the same year of Franzen right? So you can't pull the age card, and seeing as Franzen has 8 more years on his contract, and only scored 3 more points as a forward than Campbell did as a defenseman, and then you give a mid-prospect/mid-pick and a bust.. and you get a mid-prospect/pick from FLD. Yeeaaahhh, terrible for Detroit.

Oh no, you're absolutely right on those points.

You just omitted the part where we're an old team giving up prospects we need. (because I seriously doubt we're giving away peanuts like Nestrasil and Parkes) The part where Campbell gets paid $3M more than Franzen, and thus, nearly makes as much, total, on the rest of his contract.

Oh, and you left out the part where an offensive defender is not what Detroit needs... At all.

What about Franzen to Washington? We can give up D, not Alzner or Carlson. Not sure if youd be interested in any other D though, but theres always Johansson and Laich and picks?

Green would probably too much, and with WSH just re-signing him, I don't see it happening. It would be intriguing, though he doesn't fill the biggest need (tough, physical defensive D).

Hamrlik, too old, not enough. Schultz, lol.

Orlov would be nice but wouldn't fill a need as much and I think we could get better return with Franzen. Franzen is only legit top6er who is pure shooter, so I don't think management is trading him to a kid that was scratched at last playoffs. Orlov is also LH, though that won't be deal breaker. Kid has potential though.

Alzner would be just what we need but yes, that ain't happening.

0% Chance of acquiring Alzner?

Alzner, Johannson
for
Franzen, Quincey, Nyquist, 1st and (as a throw in) Eaves/Miller/Sproul/Athanasiou/McCollum

There is nothing in that deal that Chicago would value over Seabrook. We say no before Vancouver gets the chance.

Seriously, who couldn't average 30ish goals a year with Datsyuk?

Let's break this down a bit.

Johansson and Nyquist are both early 20s forwards. We'll add McCollum as the throw in here to even if up given Johansson's NHL experience.

That leaves:

Alzner = Franzen+Quincey+1st

I would argue that that is overpayment. Quincey's no Alzner, but he's not much older and is much better offensively while still playing a sound defensive game. Washington has guys like Carlson, Hamrlik, Schultz and Erskine who can play the defensive game. With Wideman gone, it's Green and Hamrlik for offensive defensemen. I think Franzen being included is excess, though. Maybe if you change him out for Eaves/Miller or even Abdelkader it works. That would make the final deal:

Alzner+Johansson = Quincey+Nyquist+Eaves/Miller/Abdelkader+McCollum+1st

Which I think is a fair deal.

Quality for quantity that more likely than not makes Washington worse near and long term.

No thanks.

How much would the Devils have to add to Tallinder to net Franzen?
