What we need to do is implant Bournival or Holland's brain in Avtsin, what a beast of a player that would be.

Wonder if that's just temporary until the lock out ends...or if they want him to get more ice time ECHL vs 4th line AHL...or he showed up in camp out of shape.
Or maybe Sortini is just a better hockey player at this point.

Martin Mcguire said on the radio that the Quailer-Bournival-Gallagher line really clicked the last 2 intra-squad games, if they want to start the season with a 'veteran'' line of Goeffrion-Leblanc-Palushay that kinda leaves Avstyn as the odd man out for the third line with Naatinen,Holland and Blunden coming in with the edge right now. I just don't see him in a checking line role and I'd rather see him in the ECHL than sitting out most games. East Coast could actually be really good for him, with his skill level he could be a go-to guy and get his confidence back as an offensive treat. Whether he's willing to go there is another story though...

He didnt show any improvement last season, but comon, the guy just turned 21, give him a bit more time before calling him a complete bust.
He definitely needs to show progression this year with all the young guys that arrived(Gallagher LeBlanc Bournival Quailer etc) plus others on the way(Kristo MacMillan Hudon Bozon Galchenyuk etc).

Schultz must have done something cause he was an NHL call-up last season, now he's sent down in the ECHL before the season starts. I hope it's because he needs a wake-up call.

Interview with Kyle Hagel.

Guy seems like a great team guy and glad he's part of the dogs.

Dogs are icing such a young roster this year. From the point of view of prospect development, it's going to be a fantastic year to follow the team, with an unusually large group of guys with NHL hopes in the mix. In terms of competing in the AHL, though, I suspect they're going to struggle mightily against more veteran-laden teams. Traditionally it's not top prospects that dominate the AHL (with exceptions of course), it's top AHLers.

He was an NHL call-up for the sole fact that there were very, very few other options, if any, and we had so many injuries that they needed to make sure they could ice a full roster if anyone else went down.

Schultz wasn't ready last year, but I'm disappointed to see him get put in the ECHL this year. I think he can become a real good 4th liner in time but I'm not quite sure how much patience they're willing to show him anymore.

He showed a lot of improvement between his first pro year and his second. Last year, he could play a shutdown role with getting some nice offensive stats while still being phsical. He played on the third line all year with Dumont and Masse.... Honestly, i'm still very pissed that they choose to keep the biggest hugger in fight history Stortini and Hagel, two guys that has no nhl futur, unlike Schultz, who's only 22 years old and has some potential.

I still don't understand their decision. ****.

I think we'll see something like this:

Geoffrion - Leblanc - Palushaj
Holland - Nattinen - Gallagher
Qualier - Bournival - Blunden
Hagel - Dumont - Avtsin
Stortini

Tinordi - St. Denis
Beaulieu - Ellis
Nash - Pateryn
Corbin?

Desjardins
Delmas/Mayer

That's a very, very young team. Patience will be needed.

I like this lineup but i would send Avstin in ECHL and keep McCaulay on the 4th line

From the videos, MacAulay and Boutet seem to be guys who will defend their teammate, but aren't the greatest of fighters. Boutet seems to be a **** disturber and a guy who likes to try and throw a big hit. No wonder he had Stortini going after him.

I hope MacAulay is a guy who learns to be like Blunden and hits as often as possible, because he doesn't seem to have the skill for the AHL.

This needs to become the new euphemism for being fat.

Just heard this on TSN 990, they'll broadcast many Bulldogs games during the lockout.

He signed with that team before signing with the Dogs apparently.

You are acting like Schultz is gone forever. They can recall him at any point. We'll probably never know why he was sent to the E, but that picture is pretty revealing. You also need to remember that there are probably 2 forwards who wouldn't be on this team if there was no lockout, so that probably hurt Schultz's chances of staying up.

Also, I don't think there's a chance Avtsin accepts an ECHL demotion. He'd go back home.

Schultz was told by Cunningworth, Ladouceur and Carriere to get in better shape over the summer and come to training camp ready to play. He hasn't done what was asked of him by the team. This was the reason he was sent back down to Hamilton without playing a game last year when he was called up. Schultz improved overall his play last season but needs a wake-up call on how to be a professional hockey player so it's the ECHL until he can learn the lesson or get himself in better shape which ever comes first.

I don't know much about Hagel. But Stortini was brought in
to play a completely different role than Schultz. Their only
similarities are that they are semi-thugs that play bottom six.

Stortini will be relied upon to be a defender (in the fighting sense) and a leader.

TSN 990 will broadcast dog games on the radio ?

I think there is still hope for Fortier. The guy can be useful -- at least at AHL level -- to a certain extend. But he'll have to be pretty good in the ECHL, or else he's probably headed straight for France.

Other cuts aren't surprising (well, Schultz is, to a certain extent, but there was something fishy about the club signing Stortini...). It's probably the end for Michel Ouellet. Not sure if he ever was a bona fide NHL'er, but the guy had pretty good hands, and the Michel Ouellet of old could have been an AHL top-scorer. Too bad he was slow to begin with and is probably even slower now.

I hope they keep MacAuley in the fold, as a 4th liner or as a 2nd C in ECHL. Hard-working player.

And I hope they keep Quailer.

Underrated post.

Schultz definitely looks like he's been training with GR.
