Selanne has always been an amazing skater, which is one of the reasons why he's been able to have such a long career. I also see him as more of a goal-scorer with good playmaking abilities.

As of right now, Granlund isn't the strongest skater, and is viewed as much more of a playmaker.

I never understood the comparison.

Only comparision to Selanne was based on his rookie point totals. Does not play a similiar game at all.

Saku Koivu. Mark Savard. Is what we should be hoping for.

Giroux if everything goes right.

I don't think the comparison has ever been about their playing styles, but rather their overall ability and significance when it comes to Finnish hockey players. (Both became pretty big phenomenons at young age)

Starting to get the feeling that every player with a 2-way contract (minus Spurgeon) will be heading to Houston

Yeah, without looking anything up, I believe the last player to put up Granlund's sort of point totals at that age was Selanne.

Selanne was two to three years older and even though he put up Granlund's sort of point totals he did it in half the games played.. Saku Koivu is closer. Olli Jokinen also was a point per game player at Granlund's age.

I've sometimes said that Granlund as a playmaker is similar as Selänne as a goalscorer. They both see the situations developing before anyone else's got a clue. Then again, their other qualities don't really compare.

People forget that the original Saku Koivu comparison for Granlund was the PRE-injury Saku Koivu... he was a much more dynamic player before his injury.

THAT is the comparison targeted there. Not the more workman like player Saku was forced to change into.

Markus Granlund has not been impressive when I've watched him. Marcel Hossa.

Granlund

If eligible, and the lockout continues into December, would Granlund have the option to Join the World Junior Team, or would he stay with Houston the entire year?

he is too old to play in WJC, you have to be under 20, Brodin would play for sure since Sweden would drool over having him on the team, but Baby G is growing up

Was anyone at the X this weekend watching prospects? How did FBJ do? Wild.com does not mention anything about him...did he stand out like it was effortless for him?

Edit: Nevermind, did not see other thread!

best part of that gif is at the end when you see the goalie's face and he's all like

"oh hell you didn't do that"

Where does a guy get me some cheap/knock-off version so he can use his creative side?

Also, you could use the first pic of him and one from his squeeze and have some fun!

The latest issue of Urheilulehti with the amazing cover above has a full two-page story about Mikael Granlund in North America. I recommend the Finns to grab the paper somewhere, it's a good read. Urheilulehti can be quite a sensationalist magazine but so far so good on the Granlund front. I guess we can expect good coverage this year as reporter Samuel Savolainen lives in the States and will keep a close eye on Granlund's life there.

Here's a few snippets and quotes from Granlund to all of you Finnish language challenged fans:

There's talk about the lockout and enthusiasm in the state for the most interesting team in the club history after the two free agent signings and the entrance of the youth. Granlund's and Koivu's early careers are compared with both starting in Aeros.

"It's useless to try to change anything. The best thing I can do is to keep playing through my strengths. Those things that helped me get here in the first place. I get the chance to do that for sure in Houston."
On topic of the crazy hype and fame in Finland compared to Minnesota:

There's also stuff about the passionate fanbase in the State of Hockey with people even having HIFK Granlund jerseys bought from Helsinki. Hope to get to read more articles like this as the season goes on.
