AHL, support or not?

Should we ban, from watching, buying tickets, supporting the AHL?
the nhl team owners do own those teams, should they be making profits from those games? from the fans of hockey, since they did lock out the nhl players.

what do you guys think?

I'll be supporting the AHL team this year, possibly go to a couple of games for cheap.

You're saying we should boycott hockey... in Toronto.

Good luck.

no. support other leagues, OHL.

MARLIES are owned by the leafs, rogers/bell.
they will make money if you go and watch, and have enough to pay burke.
rogers /bell laugh at us, all the way to the bank.

junior hockey, minor hockey, support them, they never lock out the FANS, like the NHL/AHL owners did.

I'm not positive but isn't the TML/marlies same ownership being one the exception and not the rule. Might want to look into that. If I made this thread, I would have.

LOL! Nobody in Toronto is going to actually go through with boycotting hockey. At least none of the people with blue and white in their veins. I'll be watching and cheering for the Marlies. Can't wait to see Gardiner, Holzer, Kadri, Frattin, Ranger, Colborne and D'amigo down there.

Heck I'll probably be able to go to 4 AHL games for the price of 1 NHL game.

I guess I'll just buy whatever Marlies tickets you don't then while you continue to live under this false sense of grandeur you seem to be suffering from. Because if you're going to stop buying into the Leafs/Marlies you may as well continue the lunacy and cut all internet, phone and TV ties with Bell and Rogers as well considering that's where these companies have made all their money.

I'll be supporting the Mariles because I want them to succeed, considering how many potential future Leafs are on the team.

OHL >>> AHL

Support LOCAL hockey. Unless you live downtown, the Marlies aren't local. Support the Steelheads, the Battalion, the Generals, Colts, Ice Dogs, Rangers, Petes, Knights, etc...

We have the greates junior league on earth and the NHL's #1 feeder system right in our backyards. If you consider yourself a hockey fan, you are doing yourself, and your home province a disservice by not attending.

I have no plans on attending Marlies games. To me, giving the Marlies money is just tacit approval of the NHL's business practices.

Knights & Generals! All day!

Yup MLSE is one of the exceptions. This is one of the reasons why you see so many affiliations change over the years. And why its been only recently there have been 30 AHL teams.

I'll be going to Marlies games. In fact, I'm thinking about getting tickets to their season opener. I'm also considering going to some Raptors games this season (will have to learn some stuff about the team I guess, lol) since I don't have NHL to spend money on. Yes, all the money is still going to MLSE but they're providing me with a product to invest my time in. Hockey players not playing hockey doesn't provide me with anything therefore I don't feel the need to take on their battle and punish myself in the process.

I'm curious about it too..I;m going to research it and edit this post.

This is all according to Wikipedia

Anschutz Entertainment Group (Kings, Monarchs, as well as two ECHL teams, Djugardens, Hamberg Freezers and Eisbern Berlin...and that's just hockey)
True North Sports & Entertainment (Winnipeg Jets & St. John's IceCaps)
San Jose Sports & Entertainment (San Jose & Worcester Sharks)
New Jersey Devils own the Albany Devils
Charles Wang (New York Islanders & Bridgeport Sound Tigers)
MSG Inc (New York Rangers & Connecticut Whale)
Ron Burkle & Mario Lemieux (Pittsburgh & Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins)
Terry Pegula (Buffalo Sabres & Rochester Americans)
MLSE (Toronto Maple Leafs & Toronto Marlies)
Tom Stillman (St. Louis Blues & Peoria Rivermen)
Minnesota Sports & Entertainment (Minnesota Wild & majority owner Houston Aeros)

Owners for the Abbostford Heat aren't mentioned but the team has moved 4 times since 2003 and has reamined the Flames affiliate, I suspect they are the same owners as the Flames

More than I thought but still lest than half

I won't be going to any games or buying any merch, so from a strictly financial standpoint, yes. I'm still watching on TV though.

These kids work their buts off, and after the season they had last year they deserve some buts in the seats.

This franchise affiliate has seen enough years of a vacant arena. I don't think boycotting the Marlies will do anyone any good. Might give cup67 a false sense of accomplishment.

Exactly.

Fill the Ricoh and MLSE would notice.

Either way you're kind of doomed. Go and can say Leaf fans will just keep coming back no matter what the they get served. Don't show up and you're a bad fan who can't support any hockey that doesn't have the Leafs attached.

In the end no one going to the Marlies games hasn't done much in the past. Might as well support the guys who are doing their best on that team.

Somehow I get the feeling they aren't making money off of AHL hockey. Many of those guys still get paid 100k+ not to mention the expensive coaches, trainers and player development people etc and when you can only sit ~8k people you won't be making that money back.

The K is like watching a bunch of figure skating 13 year old boys shooting pucks at an inflatable goalie...

Seriously the goaltending is terrible in that league, defense is atrocious and there is so much diving and slashing. I can't watch that garbage.

I'll be going to the Marlies games to watch our team's future and I'll also be attending Gens and Steelheads games. I'm from North York so it's a bit easier going to Marlies games then driving 40+ minutes to see some OHL games.

Will definitely be supporting the Marlies, the Steelheads, and the Battalion. Will also hit some Gennie games if I'm in the area, and maybe even a Petes game.
