Had to go with Nieds because he is my all-time favourite player and the difference between him and Elias is negotiable enough for favourtism to have an impact. Patrik is a definite second however.
Elias, but close call with Nieds. For me, Nieds' overall better skill (although Elias is close with the major offensive franchise records) is outweighed by Elias being a lifer (so far). Elias might not get into the HHOF, but he'll definitely be in our rafters, and that's good enough for me.
i bet in 10 years when the pain of Nieds going to the Ducks fades a little more, he'll be 3rd
Not necessarily.
For me, the longer that Elias plays the more he solidifies himself at that #3 spot.
I expected this to be closer between Elias & Nieds, but it really is amazing what Elias has done for this franchise.
Elite forward on a defense first team can't be overlooked.
The fact that at 36 years old, he was still our go-to shutdown center.
The fact that, despite being stripped of the C, he always been and continues to be a go to leader in the locker room.

I see it the opposite way. In ten years, Patty's number will be up in the rafters too, and he'll have pushed the franchise points record up by another 100-200. I think that might solidly entrench him in third.
Seriously another **** you to Brent Sutter. I thought when we got rid of Langenbummer we cleansed ourselves of his curse of making him captain. If it weren't for him Patty would be our captain to this day, and we would have lost an important player in Parise, but not an important player + our captain.
ya but who knows, maybe we dont get to the finals with Elias as captain. maybe Elias is the sacrificial lamb in our debacle season instead of Langs. the team as a whole would be sooo different that theres no certainty

I think we would have made the SCF with him as captain. We won a playoff series with him as captain. We struck out 3 times with Jamie as captain. I don't think Jamie was a sacrificial lamb or scapegoat either. He had legit problems with Lemaire.
I think the team would be just fine with Patty as the captain. He's a de facto leader in the room anyway. As Patty goes, so go the Devils, it's been that way for years.
When we were down 3-2 to the Panthers in the playoffs, and needed to win the next two, Henrique said Patty was the guy the younger players were listening to.
