On defense and goaltending, however, eep. Especially with all the players in the AHL this season who would otherwise be in the NHL.
Yup. Especially when you throw in the fact that other teams will have many more than just one young NHLer (our only one is Kreider) eligible to play...
Barring an unexpected Lundqvist-like emergence from Stacjer or Missianen, I expect the Whale to lose a lot of 4-2 and 5-3 games. Hopefully the experience is just as meaningful for Kreider, Miller, Thomas, etc.
Let me preface this by saying this is just a STYLE comparison:
Miller's goal is carbon-copy of Kesler on the half wall on the PP. Good stuff.
(The clip is in his blueshirtsunited interview).

i'm hoping to see ryan flanigan on the roster, i really liked the way he played at merrimack and if he can put on some meat this year i could easily see him having the talent to play significant minutes for the whale. he's definitely one i will be looking out for this year

Cam Talbot is the #1 goalie, he's out with a leg injury right now. Stacjer and Missianen are fighting it out to be the back and not get sent to the ECHL.

Gotcha. For some reason I thought Talbot was out for a long time.
Unfortunately, it doesn't change my point about my fears for the Whale's season...

I saw a little blurb in Howlings where Schoenfeld says he's progressing--didn't give a time table though. Probably would be easy to pick up a goalie on a try-out agreement if he's going to be out for a long time.
So, why are we happy about the Flanigan signing? (Other than it's always good to have another Mick?)
Is he a sought after NCAA free agent or is it more just that he's a guy that folks on the board know and like? His stats are ok, but not phenomenal. Anyone got a scouting report to give the rest of us a little more color?

It might be in the last thread, but i gave a small report on him since i played baseball at merrimack and roomed right upstairs from him my junior year in a townhouse. I was friends with him. I'm at work but i could copy and paste what i wrote later if you cannot find it.
so CT sent players down to the ECHL? who's on the list?
Twelve players, including Hince and Rank, were either reassigned to Greenville of the ECHL or released by the Whale on Friday. Those players are: Danny Hobbs, Brent Henley, Scott Tanski, Steven Delisle, Ryan Flanigan, Jordie Johnston, Kyle Haines, Andrew Coutney, and Colten Hayes.
Speculating where they go
Bryan Hince- Greenville *
Kyle Rank - No Idea
Danny Hobbs- Greenville
Brent Henley - Fort Wayne
Scott Tanski - Orlando?
Steven Delisle - Greenville
Ryan Flanigan - Greenville
Jordie Johnston- Greenville
Kyle Haines- Greenville X
Andrew Coutney- No Idea
Colten Hayes- Greenville *
*- Denotes Greenville Contract on Tryout with the Whale
X- Denotes not sure of contract Status
I'd imagine some of these guys like Delisle could be sent to a diff team. Since Greenville has a decent list of ECHL contracted guys already.

given the lines he listed, assume the 12th cut was Nicolas Tremblay from Clarkson
i dont agree that Delisle gets farmed out from Greenville so soon
all 3 recent NCAA Forward signings (Hobbs, Flanigan, Johnston) going down is interesting, they'll compete against each other for the Whale's attention while learning the pro game together

From what I heard I'd be shocked if he doesn't nothing against him just it's better for him. Who knows he could become a everyday player nothing shocks me in this league anymore. Wilson should have been reassigned last year. He got 10th forward mins (Odd man out). I know Chris Chappell ended up in Witchita last year and Dan Ringwald (Hartford Contract,10/11) was moved but mainly because of lack of room.
roster looks about right but I am not sold on Parlett's place in the depth chart. Recall that at the start of the playoffs it was Klassen in Hartford while Parlett was in ECHL. Also, Niemi had a crappy season, but he didn't even turn 22 until the offseason. Niemi knows his career, at least in North America, is at stake, and Beuk may have better success with him. Also Parlett is a righty, with other righty's ahead of him: Collins, Pyett, now Gilroy, and eventually McIlrath

Thanx for the good pointers, not really a depth chart though. More like a half solved Suduko
