Wonder if this gets Sandberg up as bench coach, manager in waiting. Hope so.

1B: Howard
2B: Galvis
SS: Rollins
3B: Utley
C: Ruiz/Kratz
LF: Ruf
CF: JMJ/Nate
RF: Brown
Utley isnt going to be playing 3rd apparently, so they need to figure that out unless they bring back Frandsen. I think they need to bring in another OF bat that can play center, I know it is only one game but Nate didnt look good in CF today. I Would probably want him platooning with someone so he can play RF (where he is very good defensively unlike in CF where he doesnt seem to be adequate) against a rhp (while Dom plays LF in against them and RF against LHP). I dont want JMJ playing every day.

Need to see how Ruf does in winter ball with regards to LF. Alot will rest on that imo. Cant resign Wigginton and either trade of DFA Nix. But the biggest issue to me is the bullpen. That should be their top priority.

That's probably the thinking. Which I would like.

For the bullpin, I think we do have a lot of good talent that can be used. De Fratus, Horst and Aumont have been really good if you ask me. If Stutes gets healthy and Bastardo gets back to form, we can do quite a bit. We'd need more than 5, but yeah.

I like the pieces they have now that they finished the season....though they're all young/inexperienced at the major league level, and prone to horrific seasons next year. I'd like them to make a move, but I don't know what move that is yet

I'd say we should get at least 1 or 2 of these relievers:

Adams
Janssen
Lyon
Marshall
Moylan

And whoever I might of missed.

I'd take a chance on Madson. I may also kick the tires on Victorino. I really would prefer not to have Frandsen as my starting 3B although if they started the season with him I would tolerate it, I guess.

LHP
Horst
Bastardo

RHP
Lindbolm/Rosenberg
De Fratus
Aumont
Madsen

Closer
Papelbon

That's an extremely balanced bullpen and potentially dominating bullpen.

Overall, I really believe that the Phillies are about 3 players away from being able to compete for the division (and more) next season.

1 Batter
Basically, this needs to be an outfielder, a 3B, or a 2B (if they feel like they could move Utley). The Phillies are swimming in "nice supporting players", but need at least one more competent hitter (the Burrell, the Werth) to balance the offense.
1 Starting Pitcher
We have some young starting pitching on the way (May, Martin, Biddle, Colvin). None of those guys will help us next season, however. Who knows what we have in Worley. In Kendrick, we have a borderline 5 - long man out of the pen.

We don't need a tremendous guy here, but solid and reliable at the 4 slot while Worley returns would make this team better. That's not even mentioning that between Halladay, Lee and Worley we have some serious potential injury risks due to age, recent history, or both. Guys I'd investigate are cheaper, live arms: Ervin Santana, Gavin Floyd, Brandon McCarthy. We don't need another Cy Young winner, we need someone that will be solid and not kill us. Converting from the AL to the NL generally helps guys like I mentioned too
1 Reliever
As explained above, we need an 8th inning guy.

Sandberg is the new 3rd base coach (but he's allowed to interview for Managerial positions), Steve Henderson is the new hitting coach (Rays 2006-2009), Billmeyer will be the new catching coach, and Juan Samuel has been offered to move to first base.

Wouldn't be surprised if they went the trade route for a CF or 3B. Wouldn't be shocked if they kicked the tires on Headley. SD has some young guys they may want to play. I don't think they are going after Bourn personally. Watching the press conference, it sounds like they are looking at RH hitters. That leaves BJ Upton as the only guy I could possibly see them really targeting on the FA market unless they try to catch lightning in a bottle with Melky. There are some ex-closers out there that I would give a look to as possible late inning guys- League, Balfour, Soria(option). You know its been a rough season when you can't wait until the offseason.

Listening to Amaro, he said they will be going after a right handed bat. Sounds like he is hinting towards BJ Upton. I wouldnt mind that as long as they dont give him a crazy contract. That would solve CF.

I think the consensus is that he's the best they could get for what they are likely to be willing to spend.

The only thing is, is that his batting average for his career doesn't look too good. I mean, we got mad with Rollins and his ability not to hit every so often... just saying...

The other two CF Bourn and Hamilton are left handed. Pagan (switch hitter) and Ross (right handed) are also out there. I wouldnt mind having Ross but the problem is he isnt a very good CF. I wouldnt mind Upton if it isnt 4 or 5 year contract, which it probably would be.

Nick Swisher?

Not spectacular, but Right-handed. 25-ish HR, 80+ RBIs. .361 career OBP. 31 Years old, so a 4-5 year deal would work. Definitely not a CF, however.

Unlike most FA's, BJ Upton is only 28. His value automatically increases because you are theoretically getting his 'prime' years. He's a talented player. One of my favorites in the league, but he's a strange player. Go look at his numbers year by year. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. 24 HR's one year, 9 the next year. 97 walks one year, 57 the next. What this tells me is his approach changes on a consistent basis.

In 2007, he hits .300 and 24 HR's. Hasn't been close since. It may seem like a fluke, but you can obviously see what he's capable of. This guy is as talented as they come. Fast, good fielder, cannon for an arm, and good power. Getting away from Tropicana Field automatically increases his likely output. He strikes out a lot, but unlike past Phillies teams, this team really doesn't strike out that much (because they don't walk). Besides, 5 of the 8 teams that struck out the most are in the playoffs. He's not going to hit for a high average and fans will definitely get on him for that based off the contract he will get. If you can get passed that, he can help this team. One thing I am concerned about is his walk rate dropped 4% this year. As a team that desperately needs guys that can get on base, that is a concern.

There isn't really a team in the NL that I want to see win the World Series. I would be fine with any team except the Yankees from the AL.
