I'm glad thoughts of compromise are finally getting into their heads, but I do wish they would hurry up about it.
This was the first thing I thought when reading the quotes, but I can't get too excited. After all I thought they wouldn't be dumb enough to even let it reach this point in the first place, and that it would all be done at the latest by first week of October.
Q: It’s hard enough to explain labour negotiators to people who are relatively knowledgeable about the game, but what do you say to your own grandson, who loves the New Jersey Devils and of course wants to see them back on the ice? What do you say to him?
A: It’s hard. It’s hard to explain because first and foremost people focus on what we do as a game. And it is a game. But in order for the game to be healthy, we have to make the right business arrangements. I try to explain it as best I can, but In the final analysis when you are making difficult decisions and people are looking for quick answers, sometimes it’s just hard to get people either to be happy or just to understand. In that regard, I just urge patience.
Gilroy signing with the rangers minor league pissed me off. I want him out of the league so bad. I don't think I have ever been more frustrated with a player more than Gilroy. One of the worst players in the entire league yet everything he touches turns to gold against the Devils no matter what team he is on. I just can't stand hideous players who only play good against the teams I like. Probably a nothing signing in the end but since there isn't anything else hockey related, it struck me.
Pretty much the lockout got this far because neither side really had anything to lose by locking out in the offseason.
Now the lockout is continuing because each side says "well we came this far."
It's a paradox.
Really, whoever decided that the previous CBA would expire on September 15, less than a month before the season starts, is a moron. The CBA should expire July 1. But I guess the NHLPA wouldn't go for that because that leaves alot of UFA's unemployed. Then again, that wold be some incentive to get a deal done.
Yup that's what I said. It should expire on the day after the SCF ends or July 1st at the latest. Camps ready to open on the 15th of September. It's really a joke.
And LOL at Gilroy. He scored like 3 goals last year, and 2 came against the Devils! One with Tampa Bay, and one with Ottawa on the last day of the regular season. Marty had to pretty much score on himself against Ottawa too for him to get a goal. Haha 3 of his 10 career goals came against the Devils, and Marty. Including what was his first NHL career goal too I believe.
I don't like Fehr much myself. I don't trust the guy at all really. I'm generally siding with the players, but some of these guys like Bryz saying they'll lose as many seasons as they have to. Get real man.
I think each side told the other to compromise....I don't think each side said okay we'll be willing to compromise.
There in lies the problem. They're still waiting for the other to blink rather than taking any proactive steps to save the season. They still don't realise that their images are steadily dropping all the while with the people who pay their salaries.
Boomer said it best the other day on Sirius. When you have paid by the hour Lawyers and stubborn people trying to figure this out it will take forever.
Feed everyone lunch, then lock them in a room. No one leaves and no food until a CBA is hammered out. You'll have a deal by 10pm. No excuses to do anything less.
We're never going to get to the fireworks factory at this rate.
